7 Keys to a Long Life

Everybody wants to live for a long time. It is a universal desire to be happy and healthy. However, many people are not living to their full potential because they may be putting the effort in the wrong places. I believe God wants us all to live a long, satisfied life.

Recently, when I tuned into the radio, I heard a commercial claiming that we can lose weight without exercise, diet, or basically no effort on our part. They said that their technology can help us lose 10 pounds for only a small fee of a few thousand dollars. I’m sure there are people out there who will fall for it but don’t let that be you. Today, let me share seven keys to long life.

1. Eat regularly. I hope this is good news to your ears! Unlike popular belief, eating is not the problem. God made us to enjoy food. What we eat is the key. It is better to eat several meals a day than to starve and then eat all you can. Think of your body as a car engine. The more active we are during the day, the more fuel it will need to run smoothly. Eat slowly because it takes 20 minutes for the stomach to signal the brain that is full. People in France and China eat heartily and yet they’re not overweight because they take their time eating, laughing, and enjoying their meal in moderation. Try to avoid food at least two to three hours prior to bedtime.

2. Eat small portions. As we get older, our metabolism slows down. Our body takes three to four hours to process the food. When we snack all day, it gives the digestive system no rest. Small portions take a shorter time to process. Eat from a small plate; it will trick your eyes and brain into eating less because it appears as more. When we eat less, we feel more energetic.

3. Cut down on sweets. Sugar, salt, and heroine are all white substances that harm our bodies. An average American takes about 32 spoons of sugar every day! Is it any wonder that we’re the heaviest country in the world? Just because sodas and deserts come in large and meal portions doesn’t mean we’ve to finish it. We shouldn’t waste. But it is better to waste food than to waste your body.

4. Get active. No amount of diet or technology can substitute exercise. The methods really don’t matter as much as regularity and discipline do. I’ve learned that every bit adds up. I often take the farthest parking spot in a parking lot. There’s always space there and others don’t dent my car! I also break down my exercise time into two or three segments per day. Of course this requires dedication and discipline but later it even becomes enjoyable. I take this time to pray or listen to a podcast to learn something. Burning calories slowly is better than a fast and short burst of exercise. I walk for about 20-25 miles every week. You can do that easily!

5. Don’t smoke. If you do, get help and quit as soon as you can. Our dependency on drugs (even prescription ones) and chemicals will shorten our lives. Those harmful products come with a health warning for a reason. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. What you put in it is a test of stewardship. If you want to live a long life, you have to make the right choices.

6. Drive safely. Speeding may be thrilling and a habit but it will hasten your meeting with Jesus. I’m guilty of this myself but when we drive above the speed limit, angels are not obligated to protect us. Whether we agree or not, it is good citizenship to abide by the law of the land. If we want our kids to drive safely, we have to set a good example for them.

7. Pray for divine health. It doesn’t matter what your health condition is right now; you can get better. If you’re sick, Jesus can heal you. But God won’t do what you can do for yourself. Your body is not only where you live but it is where God lives. Pray for long, satisfied life. It is part of your inheritance in Christ. Every time I pass a certain landmark, I have a habit of praying, “Thank you Lord for a long satisfied life”. When we pray for divine health, quoting health and healing scriptures daily then we’ll live a long, satisfied life as God has promised us. I pray and declare health, healing, and wholeness over your body today and all the days of your life.

“With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation” (Psalm 91:16 ESV).

Enjoying Everyday Life

Life is complicated. Our experiences of past, and present, pressure can rob the very life God has given to us. When we’re not careful, it’s easy to lose sight of the wonderful gift called today. God wants us to enjoy our lives.

The demands of life can squeeze the joy out of us. If we’re not careful, life will run us over and we’re going to waste valuable time stuck in a rut. I’ve found most of the time we’re griping about today was once an answer to our prayers. Often we’re waiting for the big miracle but I’ve learnt that life is a combination of tiny miracles. We will be wise to recognize them, glorify God, and enjoy everyday life.

Thirteen year old Athena, from Britain, passed away this summer. She was a victim of cancer but she never let her circumstances dictate her life. While cleaning out her room, her parents discovered a 3,000-word long, secret letter written on the backside of her bedroom mirror. Here’s an excerpt from the letter she left behind: 

“Happiness depends upon us. Maybe it's not about the happy ending, maybe it's about the story. The purpose of life is a life of purpose. The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra. Happiness is a direction not a destination. Thank you for existing. Be happy, be free, believe, forever young. You know my name, not my story. You have heard what I've done, but not what I've been through. Love is like glass, looks so lovely but it's easy to shatter. Love is rare, life is strange, nothing lasts and people change. Love is not about how much you say I love you — it’s about how much you can prove its true. Every day is special, so make the most of it, you could get a life-ending illness tomorrow so make the most of every day. Life is only bad if you make it bad. Never give up on something you can’t go a day without thinking about. I want to be that girl who makes the bad days better and the one that makes you say my life has changed since I met her!”

Friend, live life with a passion! Enjoy the small things, for one day you’ll wake up and realize that they were the big things! You’ll attract whatever you focus on. Instead of dreading things, learn to enjoy the trips to the grocery store. You have money to buy what you need. When you hit traffic, thank God that you don’t have to walk or wait hours for a bus. Keeping the house clean can be a chore but know that there are millions who’d love to live in your palace. Kids may be cumbersome but greater joy is to remember that we’re preparing them for life. You may have a health issue and it may be restricting your life but aren’t you glad you’re still breathing? Any day is better than being six feet under! Let us enjoy life to the fullest.

Recently I met Mac. He is 82 years old. He told me how he exploited life in his younger life. He lived on Park Avenue and made millions. He traveled the world and owned expensive real estate. Today Mac is frail but he gets around. He has not lost the zest for life. He’s slowed down but you can still see the excitement in his eyes. He has regrets but he is more focused on the future than his past. He attends church regularly. He sings in the choir. He gives a big chunk of his possessions to help the work of God. He meets with his son every Wednesday for coffee. He attends network groups. Mac laments about the time and millions he lost but he takes pride in finding Jesus in his heart. Mac is living life to the fullest.

Friend, are you enjoying life or simply enduring it? Don’t just breathe — live! If you have kids, you’re rich. If you have dirty dishes, you have food to eat. If you’re stuck in traffic, you have a car to drive. If you have piles of laundry to do, you have plenty of clothes to wear. If you have Jesus, you have hope. Don’t just live for the big events in life, enjoy the morning walks. Smell the roses. Play with your kids. Enjoy reading the Bible with your favorite cup of tea or coffee. Thank God for the three green lights in a row or finding a parking spot of your choice. Like my friend Mac, you learn to appreciate the small things in life. Change your perspective. Enjoy everyday miracles. It will change your life!

“How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog--it's here a little while, then it's gone. Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it” (James 4:14,17 NLT).

Mastering Your Money

Money is a big priority in our lives. Many talented people wasted their lives because they never learnt to manage their money. We do not always need more money.  If we learn to manage what God gives us, then we will become kings in life.

The other day I was talking to a young friend who is getting started in his financial business. He is a very hard working and honest man. As we were visiting, I casually shared my simple money views with him. I guess he was encouraged because he said, “Can you write those points for me?” I’m no Dave Ramsey, or Warren Buffett but today I will share with you what I have learnt about money.

First, don’t make money making your goal. The famous Zig Ziglar once said, “If you help enough people get what they want, you will always get what you want.” Money is a bi-product. There is nothing wrong in going after your dream job or wanting a profit from the business but if money is our main motivation, we’re running a poor business. When we follow God and maximize our gifts and the talent He has given us, money will follow. Seek God’s face more than you seek His hands.

Second, honor God by giving back. Be generous! The church has dwarfed people of faith by nagging members for 10% of their income. I say this with all due respect but this is not scriptural. There is nothing wrong with supporting our local churches, but church is people. We should be more concerned about building people than building buildings. In the New Testament, Jesus upheld the tithe but He didn’t stop there. He taught us to surrender ALL to God because it’s all His in the first place! God doesn’t want your money, He wants your life! This is what the church did in the Book of Acts and what a revolution they started! When we help the poor, the widows, and the persecuted, we’re advancing God’s Kingdom and accumulating treasure, both in heaven and here on earth. We should give according to what measure we want to get back. I challenge you to consider giving 80% of your income away. You may be tilting your head at me but try it and see what God does for you!

Third, pay yourself. Putting resources away for retirement, inheritance for the family, and investing are principles straight from the Scriptures. When we’re brainwashed to give everything away or never take a step of faith to bless others, then we have a skewed view of money. God instructed Joseph to save 20% for the famine to come. Joseph obeyed and the whole country was saved. Could it be, saving is God’s way for us also? God’s principle will still work if we only heed to His ways.

Fourth, pay your bills before they’re due. You would be amazed by how many people don’t pay bills on time. Remember, the pain of a bad habit can cost you much. Bank auto pay is a great way to pay our bills. Normally I have two days in a month when I pay my bills. I write the big bills first like giving a percentage to God, the mortgage, and so on. To eliminate late fees, I normally allow seven working days for the payments to process.

Fifth, owe nothing to anybody. With 15%-29% interests, credit cards are daytime robbery. The Bible says, “The borrower will be slave to the lender.” Once I foolishly put $10,000 on my credit card to pay a conference bill for a number of people. It took me three years and thousands of dollars in interest to pay it off. Now I carry a negative balance on that card. Here’s my advice. Have no more than two major credit cards. Apply for the ones that give you miles or rewards for using their card. Stay away from retail store credit cards. Unless you know you’re able to pay the FULL AMOUNT back at the end of each month, do not buy on credit. Carry only one card in your wallet for emergencies and leave the rest at home – especially the ones you’re tempted to use the most. Be smart. Exploit the system, don’t be a victim of it!

Last but not the least, if you’ve messed it up in the past, ask God for mercy. Change your habits and ask God for a financial miracle. My friend’s $100,000+ debt was canceled by the IRS! I pray for financial miracles every day and God answers my prayers. My friend, ask God for favor, be generous, show some character, learn to live within your means and you’ll experience a financial tsunami you’ve never imagined before. I’m praying for you!

“Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication; And let them say continually, "The LORD be magnified, Who delights in the prosperity of His servant" (Psalm 35:27 NAS).

How to Manage Your Money

I have several friends who come to me for advice on their money. God’s Word has a lot to talk about money. How we manage our money will determine how much or how little we’ll have of it.

There’re so many voices that want your attention regarding money. If you’re not careful, you can lose a lot by everything “experts” say. Like everything else, the best money advice comes from the Scriptures.

Be diligent at your work. It’s shocking how few people take their work seriously! Many don’t even show up to work. Since the fall of Adam, it is our task on earth to work. The good news is when we work, God has promised to bless the work of our hands. Hard working people will never have to beg for bread.

Be a person of excellence. I go to a certain service counter every month. The clerk’s body language tells me she doesn’t want to be there. It’s a mess when she folds my papers and staples it. I always have to un-staple and make it look decent before I file it. The Bibles teaches, whatever we do, we have to do it unto the Lord and give our best at it.

Have discipline. Pay your bills ahead of time. When paying your bills, take care of your “big potatoes” first. That’s your mortgage/rent, car payment, insurance, tithe, food, and savings and so on. When you put a few large potatoes in an empty jar, it will fit perfectly fine. Later you can pour a lot of rice into the pot and they too will fit around the big potatoes. In the same way, when we take care of our big expenses first, all the small expenses fit in.

Pay off credit card debt. Credit cards are a trap. If we’re not disciplined, we can lose cash fast. Most credit card companies charge 10-25% in interest. You may have a small or a large debt. Don’t be overwhelmed. Start paying more than the minimum every month. Stop using your card for further purchase. Cut it up if you can’t resist temptation. You’ll be amazed what miracle you’ll create for yourself if you simply start paying off your debt.

Save what you save. When you’ve paid off your credit card, student or a car loan or a mortgage, stash away the same cash in a savings or retirement account. When you begin to save, you’ll create energy and free yourself from living month to month. When you have a cushion to fall back on, you’ll have less stress and produce more.

Never act in fear. A friend of mine listened to an “expert,” motivated by fear, bought his book and few weeks later lost 25% of his life’s savings! Just because you see them on TV, listen to them on the radio or read their books doesn’t mean God wants you to take their advice. The best advice you can ever receive is to listen to the Holy Spirit and follow the peace of God in your own heart.

Don’t go for quick gain. When money starts to come easy; be on guard. Hard earned, honest living is still the best way to get rich. Of course, you want to be smart with your money but watch out for a quick buck. If it sounds too good to be true; it probably is! Be conservative. Build your wealth over a period of time.

Diversify. You’ve all heard, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” When we diversify our investment, we’re reducing our chances to lose it all. Don’t invest money in too many high risk portfolios at once. Invest in stocks, bonds and companies you know about. Don’t be naïve. Educate yourself. Only you are responsible for your own money.

Give it away. All rich and famous people have one thing in common – they all give away a lot of money. Obviously there’s a tax-benefit to giving but most rich people give because they have a heart for the less fortunate. The Bible says, when we help the poor, we lend unto the Lord. Cast your bread upon many waters and they’ll come back to you. (Ecclesiastes 11:1).

Friend, money is not the root of all evil – the love of money is! Work hard so you can give more away. Follow God and money will follow you. God knows your needs and how to get it to you. Today God is saying, “Be faithful in little things and I’ll make you ruler over much!” What are you going to do?

“If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches” (Luke 16:11 ESV)?

Family Matters

With back to school fever, parents, grandparents and children are shifting into new gear. Summer holidays were fun but now it’s time to settle back into the routine. Our family is a gift from God and we should not take it for granted.

One reason the family has been so much under attack is because it represents God the most. For decades now the family values have been reduced to shreds. But a family belongs to God and He will not allow it to fizzle out. Fads come and go but our families are here to stay. Therefore, we might as well learn to get along with each other. We shouldn’t just endure our family but enjoy them.

Everything God does have an order. The solar system circles in a certain motion. The waves of the sea have rhythms and even the law of nature operates in a certain order. If a family has to be healthy it must also have God’s order at home. Today let’s discuss a few principles from God’s Word about family matters.

First, the husbands! It is God’s plan for the husband to be the head of the family. Let me assure you, men did not come up with this idea. God did! Many men have abdicated their role as the leader of the family and that’s why we have such havoc in our society. Leadership is not to be confused with dictatorship. Leadership is making sure the right person is making the right decision. Involve your wife in important decision making process. It’s smart because if the plan fails you have someone else to share the blame with! Men it is not enough to be lions in your career but now it is time for you to lead your family in spiritual things. Don’t just provide for our family financially but provide for their emotional, mental and social needs also. You’ve got to make her feel secured of your love and provision in every area. Your wife and children need your praise, understanding and validation. Give up control and allow your wife freedom. More is caught than taught. Children become what they hear. Lavish them with affirmation. Catch them doing something right and brag about it. Teach your children responsibilities, Godly values and establish healthy boundaries. Discipline is still in God’s Book. Unconditional love is like glue that binds your family together. If we want our women to follow us as the church needs to follow Christ then we must also lay down our lives in service to our family God gave us. Remember, no man was awarded for what he received but what he gave.

Ladies, you’re beautiful so your job is to make everything beautiful. God has given you incredible gift to love and nurture your family. You look most beautiful when you operate as the “helper.” A woman’s value is the same as of the husband but our roles are different. Don’t assume the roles of your husband, it makes him feel inadequate. The most important thing your husband need from you is respect and honor. The more you brag about him in private and in public the better he will perform. Remember, men are little boys trapped in large bodies. Don’t focus on the 20% your husband may not be best at rather focus on the 80% he’s good at. Let God change him. He’s got a heavy Hand! When you create an atmosphere that is filled with fun, peace and laughter, everybody will want to hang around the house. Just the opposite is also true when a home is filled with strife and stress. Don’t sweat the small stuff. You don’t always have to agree on everything. When you cannot agree on an issue with your husband, yield and let him make the final decision. Be comfortable but look your best at home as you do in public. Your tenderness mixed with gracefulness and prayers are mighty weapons that will melt every heart. You are the most valuable treasure in the family!

The scripture says, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord.” Turn down the volume and turn up the respect. There will be authorities you’ll have to submit to all your life; start practicing at home. You’ll live long and it will go well with you. Your parents are the only free life lessons you’ll have. Take their advice; it will save you a lot of heartaches. Learn, grow, belong - your family is the only thing God chose for you. Accept and admire your family. Dedicate yourself to the things of God and high ambitions and you’ll see success in every step of your life. Don’t like what I have to say about today? Talk to God! These are His ideas.

Be Enthusiastic

Enthusiasm goes before success. When we’re enthusiastic, we boost morale, inspire confidence and build loyalty. Enthusiasm is contagious. You can feel enthusiasm when you shake people’s hand, the way they talk and the way they walk.

None of us can be “up” all the time. But if we have the mindset to be enthusiastic we will attract more positive people into our lives. Enthusiasm alone cannot solve our problems but it puts us in front of the right people faster.

Many decades ago when Charles Schwab was earning a million dollars per year, he was asked if he was drawing such large salary because of his ability to produce steel. Mr. Schwab replied, “I consider my ability to arouse enthusiasm among the men the greatest asset I possess, and the way to develop the best that is in a man is by appreciation and encouragement.” Is there any wonder Charles Schwab was regarded one of the most influential men of his generation!

Most of the time, we don’t wake up feeling like dancing. It is at that very moment we have the opportunity to decide if we’re going to enjoy and be enthusiastic about the gift of today or if we’re going wallow in our mediocrity. When we face each day with enthusiasm, we’re going to create miracles for ourselves. Enthusiasm will open doors for you where talent alone can’t.

Many people label Peter in the Bible as rash, quick tempered and impulsive. But it was enthusiasm that got Peter out of the boat. He was the only disciple who walked on the water with the Lord. Peter was enthusiastic about life. He was quick to draw his sword and cut off the ear of one of the soldiers who came to arrest Jesus. I believe it was Peter’s enthusiasm that led Jesus to recruit him as the pillar of the New Testament Church. Later, when Peter got filled with the Holy Spirit, He led three thousands to Christ in one meeting! We too can be enthusiastic about life. When we’re passionate about people, God and the work we’re involved in, we’ll inspire others to be their best for God.

Let me share my adaptation of Mark Twain’s, “Whitewashing the Fence.” Tommy, a young lad had to whitewash a long stretch of fence all by himself. At first he was reluctant. When he realized that there was no other option, he cheered up. Instead of sulking, Tommy began to paint the fence vigorously putting on the biggest smile on his face. The more he smiled the faster he painted. Tommy was actually excited and enthusiastic about his job at hand. Just about that time a bunch of his friends were riding by on the bicycle. When they saw Tommy enjoying himself painting the fence, they couldn’t help but ask for a turn. At first Tommy was eager to change hands. But then he got smart. He asked for a dime from each person in exchange for a turn to paint. In no time kids pulled out their treasures and turned them to Tommy. The fence got painted twice over and Tommy became the richest kid while resting under a tree watching his friends paint. How did all started? It started because Tommy changed his attitude about doing something with enthusiasm. You too can get others to “paint your fence” if you become enthusiastic about life.

Friend, whatever you may have to do, put some energy, attitude and enthusiasm in it. Get excited about doing laundry, washing dishes or vacuuming the floor. If you put enthusiasm when you make those cold calls, you’ll have better success rate to close the sale. The world belongs to those who are excited about life. Some people freeze in the winter others ski. A positive attitude will produce a positive result. Jesus said, “You’re the light of the world.” If we’re to shine our light, we’ve to turn on the switch. Enthusiasm is the switch! Not everything in life is fun but if you are enthusiastic about life, everything will become more endurable and you’ll spread joy and confidence along the way.

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might” (Ecclesiastes 9:10 NIV).

Prophesy Your Future

Many people today are not satisfied with where they are. We want more victory, more power, better health, jobs, peace, joy and fulfillment in life. It is not bad to desire for more. In fact, the more we have, the more we can give away.

When we feel stuck in our business, personal life and family one of the things we can do is to prophesy our future. Our words have same creative force that God has when we speak His Word over our situation. When we proclaim God’s Word over our situation, we release the supernatural power of God to work in our situation. The Bible says that the Word of God is a two edged sword. It cuts through the problems we’re facing so that God can establish His plan for our lives.

Many Christians believe that if God wants to bless them He knows what we need and how to get it to us. That is true. But God is also waiting to see how much we trust Him. Just like earthly fathers like to be asked by his children, God likes it when we cast our confidence in Him. He said, “Ask and you shall receive.” No ask no get!

We have to take action but before we act, we must speak faith-filled words. We all know the story of David and Goliath. In the natural, David was no match for Goliath. The odds were too high against him. Today, you may be facing a similar situation in your marriage, business, children or health. The reports are stacked against you. Be of good cheer. It’s not over yet. God is fighting your battle for you. But you have to prophesy your future. Before David ever confronted Goliath, he spoke victory words out of his mouth. He said that he was going to cut off Goliath’s head and feed it to the birds and wild beasts. (I Samuel 17:46). David demised Goliath just as he had proclaimed ahead of the showdown.

There’s a great principle in this famous story. If you want to overcome your mountain, you have to speak to it. Tell cancer, it must go. Thank God for the job you’re looking for. Command your children (in prayer) to return to the Lord. Give God praise for giving you favor over that contract you’re waiting for. Speak to your financial situation to turn around. Friend, you can speak your way into victory. Anyone can thank God for something after they’ve received the promise. Faith is to thank God for the victory tomorrow while you’re still in today! When we release, faith-filled words from our mouth, we will see victory. All professional coaches use this secret to motivate their players. You have to create a mental picture of victory before you ever get there. Stop talking about how things are and declare how you want things to be!

 

Years ago, I was caught by secret police for preaching the Gospel in a forbidden country. I was young and learning the principle of speaking God’s Word over my life. I was so excited and spoke over every obstacle that came my way. Looking back, I was a little off balance but my heart was right. Before we ever reached the district magistrate (which was a three-hour walk) I kept declaring our freedom. I was scared but I spoke under my breath and out loud how God was going to deliver me and my disciple who was younger than me and had already spent two years in the same jail for preaching the Gospel. Our offense carried a sentence of up to six years in a horrific jail. When we finally met the magistrate, he scolded the secret agent who arrested us and let us go free! When we got out of the prison courtyard we ran so hard that we could’ve easily won the hundred meters Olympics medal! Seriously, that day I learned a valuable lesson. I learned that we have to proclaim God’s Word before we can possess our victory. Job said, you shall decree a thing and it shall be established. (Job 22:28).

 

Friend, what are you facing today? Business is slow? Doctor’s report is not good? Are you feeling discouraged and depressed? Do you have a relationship problem? Is there a legal battle hanging over your head? No matter what opposition you’re facing; declare God’s Word over it. You have to proclaim it before you can possess it. Celebrate People

Today is my daughter’s sixteenth birthday. Where has the time gone? I remember the day she was born. I remember when she took her first steps. It was like yesterday! Today we celebrate her life.

When we celebrate people, we add value to them like nothing else. We all have a need to feel special. We need to feel valued. We want to belong. There are many ways we can celebrate the gift of life. This is especially effective when people are going through a difficult time. When we invest our time, talent and treasure in others, we’re fueling them to rise higher.

Years ago, I was visiting a large church. I was attending a special conference on world missions. The pastor of the church mentioned that they’re going to take up a special offering for a single mom who had some urgent needs. They passed the bucket around and my first thought was why aren’t they taking an offering for our mission work? Reluctantly, I put some money in the offering bag. My attitude was, “If they’re not celebrating me, why should I be excited?” (I know I was a low life then). Right after the offering the pastor announced that someone was going to donate a new car to the lady in need. What happened next is still stuck in my mind vividly. Two teenage boys sitting in front of me jumped up and gave the biggest high-five I’d ever seen. They’re hugging each other in joy. These two teenagers were genuinely celebrating the blessings of other. The Holy Spirit taught me a lesson watching those boys that day that I’ll never forget - celebrate the victory of others.

One way we can celebrate people is to speak positive words of encouragement into their lives. When we speak highly of people, we give them power to perform better. Anyone can pull people down but we’re commissioned to build people up. When we speak life into people, they start to believe in themselves again. Always find something to compliment people about. It could be the tie they’re wearing or a piece of jewelry. Something simple can be a huge encouragement to the other person.

Another way we can celebrate people is by giving gifts. Often we think our gifts have to be expensive or extra-ordinary. That kind of thinking will limit us. We can give simple gifts such as a Starbucks gift card, send a box of cookies, a handmade card or buy people a meal. There are whole businesses built to create gifts for you to give. Give gifts and celebrate people.

A powerful way to deposit into people is to pray for them. Prayer is a mighty weapon in the hand of ordinary people like us. Prayer makes you a super-human. Of course, we don’t have any power in ourselves but when we call on God’s power to touch people’s lives, He hears us. Our prayers can heal people of their hurt, troubles and struggles. Let us learn not only to pray for people but to pray with them.

One of the best ways we can celebrate people is to share the love of God with them. This is why I’m sharing Christ around the world for the last twenty seven years. Thousands of lives have been touched and changed by the love of God. You too can share Christ with someone you know. The Bible says that the whole heaven celebrate over the salvation of one person.

Friend, let’s try to find ways to add value to people. Celebrate people with an encouraging word. Celebrate people by giving a small gift. Pray with people. When we celebrate others, God will send people to celebrate our lives. I celebrate you!

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

In the scope of life, most of our daily trials are trivial matters. It is amazing how the most insignificant things in life trip us up! If we’re to lead a peaceful, productive, enjoyable life, we’ve got to handle the “small stuff” right.

There was a time when I used to get so sucked up in the small stuff. I was a petty thinker. I used to be controlling. I meddled in other people’s business. I was trying to fix the world while my own world was crumbling down. It’s almost embarrassing to think of myself that way. Thank God for His grace and mercy. I’m a living proof that it works! I may not be where I need to be but I’ve come a long way. When we disengage ourselves from the small cares of the world, we will have time, effort and energy to focus on building life.

Every day, before we wake up, God gives us a measure of energy and grace to deal with that day. If don’t use our resources wisely we’re going to lack when we need it the most. We cannot allow the small things in life dictate us and rule over our emotions.

At home, how many wars are fought over small issues? I’ve learned it is better to have peace than to be right. If the groceries need to be put away don’t shout for help; just do it. If the keys are missing on a regular basis – help out your spouse by assigning a specific place for it. If the drawers are left open – just close them. If office supplies are not returned in its perfect spot – go get it yourself. If the dirty socks are lying on the ground – just pick up the stinking socks. If someone is leaving the lights on or the faucet running and you’re trying to save money – turn it off or just leave it on! Ten dollars extra per month is well worth keeping peace in your family. You may think this is going to ruin you because others in your family are not cooperating but in reality you’re setting an example. You speak more by your action than your lecture. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

When you’re sitting in traffic and it’s moving at five miles an hour, don’t get all impatient. I used to have a bad habit of honking at people whenever others honked at me for not moving immediately at the green light. Then when they’d pass me I’d give them a stern stare! One day the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart in a small voice, “How long are you going to allow strangers to control your life?” I asked God to change me. I asked my children to hold me accountable. After about six months of practice, I become cool as a cucumber. I have nothing to prove. Nothing in traffic brothers me anymore. Instead of saying, “I hate traffic” now I proclaim, “I love traffic!” Try it sometime reverse psychology works! Seriously, when we ask God for help, He will come to our aid. One more thing relating to driving: if you’re not on the driver’s seat, don’t tell how to drive. He/She’s got a driver’s license. Let the driver do the driving!

At work, when you’re not included in an office meeting, it is easy to feel less important. When you’re robbed off of your commission or promotion, you feel angry. When you come early and leave late to show our loyalty to company and still get chewed up for something small, you have to be the bigger person and let it go. The more you overlook an offense the more peace you’ll have. I’m not asking you to be an ostrich and put your head in the sand. Be aware but let God do His thing. He knows how to turn the table on your opponents and in your favor.

Today, my challenge for us is not to sweat the small stuff. Details are important. But if it creates conflict and brings division, let it be. God can change people’s heart faster than you blink. When we remain calm and follow peace, we’re in control. Don’t let a phone call or an email ruin your day. Give your kids a break. Be understanding to your spouse. Do a kind deed without taking credit for it. You’re here for a much bigger purpose. Don’t let the small foxes destroy your vineyard. I pray and declare that you’re secure, confident, bold, forgiving, disciplined, patient and compassionate. Your destiny is too big to fall for a small trap of the enemy. You have the mind of Christ. Give up the low life so that God can take you higher.

Wait Expectantly

A lot of our lives revolve around waiting. Waiting can be a vicious game. If we don’t know how to wait expectantly, we can be easily frustrated. When we learn to wait with a good attitude God will vindicate us and make sure that our waiting was worthwhile.

Like most of you, I’m not good at waiting. Waiting is like asking for a well done steak. Food always motivates me! If you ask for a well done steak and get a medium or medium rare it wouldn’t be what you exactly wanted. When you understand God is orchestrating your life, it will be easier to wait. God knows what you need, when you need and how to get it to you. So, don’t wait impatiently but rather wait expectantly knowing that in due time God will bring your expectation to pass.

Recently, my kids got some kittens. They are playful, cute and all that. I’m new to having pets around the house. Not my choice but they bring a lot of joy to my kids. One of the things I love about these kittens is they know how to wait expectantly. They love milk. Every time someone opens the fridge they come charging. Then they sit there with a pitiful face waiting expectantly to get some milk. Often they’ve tricked me into giving them more milk than I should. I’m not suggesting that you try to manipulate God or go to Him only when you need something. God is not moved by needs. He is moved by our faith! But there’s a lesson we can learn and that is to wait for God with expectancy.

In the office, when you make cold calls, don’t just go through the motion thinking, “I’ve to make another sixty calls before I can get a yes.” You’re not depending on the law of probability; you’re waiting expectantly. When you feel sick on your body, don’t just wait to take that pill or go to the hospital. Wait expectantly for God to heal you. His Word should be the first insurance we claim. If you’re having trouble with your boss at work, don’t come home to your family all worked up. Instead, wait expectantly for God to move your boss along or even better – you take his/her place! When you wait patiently on God, anything is possible.

Our culture has conditioned us to be impatient. This can often rob us of the great future God is weaving for us. There is a plenty of examples in the Bible that should remind us of the benefit of waiting with expectancy. Abraham had to wait 25 years for his promised son Isaac. Joseph had to wait for 13 years to go from pit to palace. David had to wait for over 20 years to reign as a king. Even our Lord had to wait for three days and nights before He could have been resurrected. I’m not suggesting these long periods of wait but our attitude should be waiting with expectancy.

Most Christians struggle while waiting because that’s where faith is tested. It is not enough to be waiting. When we wait, we must believe God is changing things for better. Waiting expectantly means we take out our umbrella while we’re praying for rain.

One thing we can do while we’re waiting is to keep doing what we know is right. It is easy to get complacent and weary while we’re waiting for our breakthrough. That is what happened to the children of Israel on their way to the Promised Land. They forgot the goodness of God that delivered them and began to murmur and complain. That attitude held them back for forty years! Don’t let that be you. A good way to wait is to expect things to turn around any moment as did Paul and Silas in the prison. How would you act if I told you that your miracle is going to happen at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, four months from now? Would you be frustrated, questioning God and people every day until then? No. You’ll have peace and a quiet confidence that it is going to happen. When you have waited another day without results, instead of getting all sour and discouraged, say to yourself, “I’m one day closer to my victory.” This will keep you going with the right attitude. Another thing you can remember while you wait is to enjoy life in the meantime. Don’t put your life on hold just because you’re waiting in one area of your life to catch up. Appreciate the life you have now. Count your blessings in other areas. Be a blessing to someone else. When you’re busy helping others, time will go much faster and before you know it your waiting will be over with your prayers answered. Friend, wait expectantly. God is working. You’ll have what you’ve been waiting for. Now give Him some praise by faith. I’m praying for you!

“Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord's return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen” (James 5:7 NLT).

Change Your Mindset

One of the most valuable things we have is our mindset. What we constantly think about is how we’re going to live out our lives. In order to live a life of significance, we must have the right mindset.

In the Bible, we’re challenged to guard our minds from wrong thinking. If we give into the guile of wrong thinking, we will soon be dancing to the tune of the evil one. You can say our mindset dictates our measure of success.

We’ve all read about the story of Moses in the Bible. Although born a Hebrew (thus a slave) Moses grew up in the King’s palace. When one of the daughters of Pharos picked up Moses from the water she changed his identity and raised him to be a prince in Egypt. Unaware, Moses grew up like a royalty. He thought like a royalty, acted and talked like a prince. One day he found out that he was a son of a common slave. It caused him to drop his self-esteem. He killed an Egyptian and fled the country. It took God forty years to change his mindset. Once he changed his mindset, he brought a whole generation of Israelite out of bondage into freedom. The shift in Moses’s mindset caused the nation of Israel to triumph.

When we have the right mindset, we carve a path to productivity and success. Like a magnet, we draw in what we constantly dream about. Our mind is so powerful that it can chart a course for our day, week, month and even our destiny. This is why it is vital that we constantly dwell on positive, victory thoughts from the Word of God. When we live with a positive mindset our problems don’t become smaller but our God becomes bigger in our own mind. When we magnify God, we minimize our problems!

I know several friends who are facing impossible situations right now. I want to encourage you to enlarge your mindset. As long as we’re bound by our own family background, education, connections and limitations, we’re not going to rise higher. Let me make some bold statements. You don’t have to live with that sickness. You will not die but proclaim the works of the Lord. Some of you are facing financial mountains. Let me encourage you. Just recently, my friend’s IRS dues were canceled amounting to over $100,000! Another friend Ben came into this country with only $80 in his pocket. Today he employs over 50 workers and owns three businesses. My brother Neil went to a small town school and college in India but last month he got his doctorate. The Bible is full of stories of people who were once this or that but through God they became mighty in the land. Saul had an encounter with God and his mindset changed forever. He went from persecuting God’s people to become the pillar of the New Testament Church. You too can change your destiny by changing your mindset.

A few days ago, I was talking to a young friend. She’s a college student and was frustrated with her job. She has a brilliant mind and God has already used her mightily. However, she feels stuck in a job she doesn’t like. I told her what I’m telling you. I told her that she can get any job anywhere she likes. She doesn’t have to stay in a negative environment. All she needs to do is to change her mindset. You too, my friend, are born to do great things. If you can accomplish your dreams by yourself, you’re thinking too small.

Today, no matter what you’re facing, I’m encouraging you to change your mindset. Take off the lid and believe God for the impossible. He has put dreams and vision in you that only you know about. This is the time for you to come out of your box. Express yourself and let the world experience the genius in you. If you change your mindset God will give you a measure of faith you’ve never had. Peace, joy, health, prosperity, healthy relationships, connections and promotions are yours if you only change your mindset. You’re a son and a daughter of a King. You belong to the royalty. Think like one. Talk like one. Behave like one. Your mindset is your measure of success.

“Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you” (Romans 12:2 The Message).
