Magnify the Good

We all go through difficulties in life. We can either chose to magnify the good or the bad. When we dwell on the good, we glorify God. When we’re being negative, we’re diminishing His power working in us.

If you’re fighting a sickness in your body, it’s ok to acknowledge your illness or express how you’re feeling. You can be real about the pain in your body. You need to get well but don’t just say that you’re sick. Go on to declare that you’re healed by the stripes of Jesus! When you magnify God’s ability, you’ll experience the supernatural power of healing.

I’m sure you’ve experimented with a magnifying glass. When we hold it up against something, it doesn’t change its size, instead it changes our perception. In the same way, when we magnify God, we don’t make Him bigger than He is. We make Him look bigger in our own eyes. We can chose to magnify the goodness of God or what the enemy is doing. Every father wants to bless his bragging child. Our heavenly Father is the same way. We cannot make Him bigger than He already is but when we talk about His bigness, mercy, and kindness, we’ll draw in the good happening to us. You say, “Isn’t that flattery?” Not, if you do it sincerely. Love God and be grateful for what He’s done already.

Today, if you’re going through a slump in your business or you are in lack, you need to focus on God’s goodness to provide. Just the fact that you’re still here is a testimony of His mercy. God has promised to never leave you. He has promised to supply all your needs. God’s sending you clients that you don’t know about. Good breaks, inheritance, and promotions have been released in your immediate future. Don’t get sucked into the temporary. Everything you see now is subject to change. Say, “I’m blessed and highly favored.” When you speak faith, you release God’s goodness.

One of the greatest sources of frustration is our family. The devil tries so hard to put family members against each other. Don’t let that be you. Your family is the only people God has hand-picked for you. Find ways to unite. Don’t be so touchy and easily offended. Overlook a few faults. Never speak negative or angry words that hurt like a burn long after they’re said. Of course they have flaws but that’s why you’re there. Show them that you love them—unconditionally. Men, be willing and available to listen (without interruption) to your own wife and children without making them feel like it’s a burden. Wives, admire your own husband as you do with other men. When we create an environment of love, peace, acceptance, and honor then we’re building a good family. Eventually, they’ll reciprocate.

There are times in your life when you can see the good in others but you just can’t find anything good in you to celebrate. This is a very dangerous way to live. If you want to be happy, you need to take time to find the good in, and for, yourself. It’s okay to love, admire, and inspire others but you must also learn to celebrate the genius in you. God made you in His own image. You belong to the Royal class. You may have a few flaws but don’t let them deter you from celebrating you! One of the best ways you can do that is to learn to encourage yourself. The scriptures say, “David encouraged himself in the Lord.”  You must find a way to become your own cheerleader. You’re important. You matter. You cannot give what you do not have. It’s never about you but it must start with you having a healthy self-image of who you are in Christ.

Friend, no matter what you’re facing, magnify what God is doing. Focus on what you have and not what you lack. Develop a healthy self-image. Love others the way you love yourself. Give and you shall receive. You have more going for you than against you. Say what you want and you’ll see what you say. Magnify the good. Magnify God!

5 Facts You Must Know About Yourself

One of the main reasons why people struggle is our own perception of who we are. We often tend to identify and magnify the gifts and talents in others but we’re not so sure about our own abilities.

We get our self-esteem from various sources. It can come from parents, teachers, and other authority figures. Even religious leaders may have taught us not to think too highly of ourselves. We must be humble but if we don’t have God’s perspective on who we are, then we’ll go through life thinking less of ourselves.  Today let’s discuss five important facts you must know about yourself.

#1. You’re magnificent. Of all the breathtaking creations in the world, you’re God’s best! You’re created by design. When we accept that God made us in His own image, it changes everything. You’re stunningly beautiful. You have the smarts. Your personality matches with your purpose. You’re here in this time and space to change the world. Let this truth sink deep down into your heart. Say it with me, “I am magnificent!” Agree with God because that’s what He says about you.

#2. You’ve got what it takes. God has equipped you with the right gifts and talents. You don’t need to be anybody else. The original YOU is more explosive than all the dynamite in the world. Quit comparing yourself to others. Accept who you are. Take some time to discover your own uniqueness – flaws and all. Albert Einstein said, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it’s stupid.” Find your mojo and be the best YOU that you can be! You’re a great husband, Dad, brother, and neighbor.

#3. You have the right connections. How many times do we suck up to people thinking they will open doors for us? There’s nothing wrong with trying to meet people and look for opportunities but you’ll have a greater sense of confidence if you accept that God is your source. He’s your strongest link to success. The Scripture puts it this way, “If God is for us, who can be against us!” Let’s stop the frustrating cycle of trying to impress people. Right now, God has just the right people and connections lined up for you to take you to the next level. If you focus on impressing God, He will impress others about you!

#4. You have the favor of God. Your natural talents may not measure up but God’s favor will make up for your deficiency. Never be too lazy to do your best. After that, let God do the rest! That’s what the young shepherd boy David did. He was the anointed (favored) unprofessional and Goliath was the experienced professional. Get up each day and pray out loud, “Thank you Lord for giving me preferential treatment today. I have the favor of God. I expect victory and success in all I do.” My friend, this is the breakfast, lunch, and dinner of Champions!

#5. There’s always hope for you. Once someone told me, “You’ve lost the window of opportunity.” People have a hard time letting go of old memories but God will never write you off. Don’t let the sins of your past rob you of your bright future. No matter how down, defeated, or desperate you feel, you can come out of your misery in a split second. The first person you’ll meet when you decide to turn from your wrongs is Jesus. God is always there for you. His mercy endures forever! He is not mad at you, He is madly in love with you. Why don’t you take a moment now and make it right with God. Say this out loud with me, “Dear God, I made mistakes. I take ownership for my wrongs. I need your forgiveness. I accept the power of the Holy Spirit to fuel me from here on. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Friend, no matter what you feel, always know these facts about you. You’re fearfully and wonderfully made. You are full of God’s can-do power. You have the right connections working on your behalf. God’s grace is sufficient for you. Nothing you do can separate you from the love of God. Now what are you waiting for? Go with God and make history!

“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12 NLT).

Adopted Into the Family

God made human hearts to belong. Yet many people go through life feeling lonesome and deserted. They do not feel loved or worthy to experience anything good in life. If they get any good brakes in life, they wait for the other shoe to fall out.

When we live with a nagging feeling inside thinking we are not good enough; we’re not worthy of anything good, we are sabotaging our own future. When become born again, we become part of God’s family. We are new creature with new feature. Regardless of our earthly parents, we inherit a new bloodline. God’s DNA becomes ours. When we are not thinking, talking and acting like God, we are belittling Him.

A few months ago, our neighborhood cat gave birth to some cute little kittens. My children begged me to keep them. Reluctantly I agreed. Now they are the greatest source of entertainment. At times when my kids come home, the kitties get more attention than I do. I feel jealous! Seriously, one thing I love about these cats: somehow they know that they belong to our family. When the fridge or the pantry door is opened they boldly show up and usually get what they want. At times, when I’m sitting on the couch working on my computer, they cuddle up next to me or try to climb over my body and sniff my nose! They have no inhibition. They have no fear acting like they belong. They should have been stray cats fending for themselves but thanks to my kids, they are living a royal life!

The Scripture says that while we were yet sinners, Christ loved us. He gave up heaven for us. He lived a sinless life. He took the beatings on His body for our healing. He offered up His life for our Salvation. When we come into the family of God, we inherit everything heaven has. We are grafted into the family of God. In heaven, there is no crying, sighing or dying. There is no lack, sickness or betrayal. There is no sin, addiction or mental torment. Heaven is where God lives and His peace and tranquility rules over everything. I’m not saying when we have Jesus we will not face any problem. What I am saying is in spite of our troubles; we can experience heaven on earth. The Holy Spirit of God who lives in us is our Comforter and our Helper.

Friend, you may not feel much today. Life may have battered you down. You may be facing some impossible situations. Remember, that you have been adopted into the family. You are the child of the Most High. You belong to the Royalty. You and God are family. You are joint heir to the throne along with Big Brother Jesus. Have no fear. Like our cats, cuddle up next to God and sniff His nose! Go to His storehouse boldly. Membership has its privileges. You have access. Everything God’s belongs to you. He is not a stingy God; He is the God of abundance!

This all may sound good but you ask, “Sandy, how do I appropriate all that God has for me?” Thank you for asking. Receive! Just receive. One of the greatest hindrances to receiving from God is our stinking thinking. We think we are not worthy. We think we have to perform. We think we have to bribe God with good behavior. These are good religious thoughts but they are like filthy rags to God. We can never impress God with our good works. We can only receive by faith what He made available through the Cross. We either chose to belong to the family of God and enjoy His blessings or we go through life struggling thinking life sucks!

Today, let me challenge you to come before the throne of God boldly in times of your need. God is craving for your attention and your dependency on Him. God wants to heal your sick body. He wants to wipe away your tears. He wants to be your husband. He will provide for you abundantly. He is the Defender of the weak. His strength is made perfect in your weakness. You are a royalty! You are adopted into the family of God. He is waiting to heal your pain and fill you with His purpose. Will you receive? I pray and proclaim; you will experience everything God has for you. In Jesus’ name!

“But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, They run and don't get tired, they walk and don't lag behind” (Isaiah 40:31 The Message).

You Are Awesome

Many people struggle with who they are. They do not like the way they look. They think they have nothing to offer to the world. They have given up on life. The truth is we are made in the image of God. You are awesome!

When we think of the majestic Himalayas, it is easy to marvel at God’s creation. When we look that the vast oceans and the creature in there, we can only marvel! We watch a documentary about space and spectacular creation we cannot but acknowledge God’s greatness. But did you know God’s greatest creation is you?

The Bible teaches us that we are made little lower than the angels but at the end of the day, we will judge the angels! The Word says, before we were born God knew us. He put a blessing on us before anyone could curse us. The blessing always overrides the curse. Many people look at themselves less than what God made them to be. If we are to make the most of life, we have to see ourselves as God does.

People go through life thinking very little about themselves. They think they are not good enough. I am here to remind you that God never makes anything inferior. The color of your skin, your height, and the country you were born were all part of God’s divine plan. Where you are today may not be where God wants you to be but everything about you is part of God’s original design.

Sometimes we blame our parents or background for the way we are – not too much of this or a little too much of that. Fact is God chose our parents. He doesn’t make mistake. If you do not like the way you were born you can be born again! When we accept Christ, God becomes our DNA. We are not God but His character, strength and power become readily available in and through us. This is the great exchange – sinners become heirs of God. Accept your royalty in God and take your position with Christ in heavenly places. Your seat has been vacant for too long. You are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Often we allow other people to dictate our lives. Parents, teachers, spouse or people in authority may have told us we will never amount to anything. We believe that lie and sit on the sidelines for years. Helen Keller, Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Winston Churchill, Jesse Owens, Walt Disney, Paul Yonggi Cho all came from a humble beginning but what history they made in the world! Today as you stand at the commencement of this year, remember that the seeds of greatness are in you. God is no respecter of people. His eyes are fixed on you and His Hands are stretched to help you claim your stake in history. He has given you another 365 blank pages to write your story. It is up to you to decide how the story will read. Do not limit God. Silence the voice of the enemy and embrace what God has for you this year.

 

One mistake people often make is that they are led by their emotions. Feelings are fickle. Do not be led by your feelings. Our feelings are like waves crashing on the beach. You cannot stop the waves from coming but you can choose which wave you want to ride on. Friend, be led by the Holy Spirit. God will speak to you loudest about your life than through any other person. God is in speaking terms with you. If you stop long enough to listen, He will tell you what you should do. Jesus said, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. Let’s stick with Him so we can bear much fruit this year.

Friend, God is not through with you. Instead, He has an amazing future waiting for you. He has crowned you with goodness and favor. Don’t condemn yourself. Don’t commit suicide. Your name is written in His Book and your picture is engraved on His Hand. He loves you more than you’d ever know. You’re created in His image. You belong to His royal family. You will surpass anything your parents ever achieved. You and God together are a majority. You are loved, celebrated and I am praying for you.

 

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10 ESV).

God will Use Your Shortcoming

What a wonderful season of the year this is! Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I love to see happy faces, festivities and the hustle and bustle of shopping and good times. Unfortunately for many, this is the worst time of the year.

I know people who dread festivities, good times and enjoying themselves. They retrieve because they’d done something wrong in the past. Guilt, shame and regret engulf their lives. Some resort to alcohol, drugs and other self-inflicting vices. We should never judge people like that instead, reach out and try to include them in our circle.

I can speak for myself. I made many blunders in my life. Believe it or not, I used to be selfish, moody, insecure, unfaithful, unreliable, lying blankety blank. (I’m still working on some of these issues.) When I felt guilt and condemnation, I’d turn to do more of the same thinking, I’m good for nothing. I don’t deserve anything better. Thankfully, a series of event in my life catapulted me to take a hard, long look at myself. I had to decide whether to let the enemy’s voice win or accept God’s plan for my life. I chose the latter and what a ride it has been since then. Today, I’m able to minister to thousands facing those same issues.

Here’s what I’ve learnt. When you’ve done something wrong or something bad happens to you, there are three choices. You can either let it define you, let it destroy you or allow it to strengthen you. If we have God’s perspective, we’ll always allow our weakness to strengthen us.

Many people sit on the sideline today because they made a mistake thirteen years ago. There are others who feel less of themselves because they don’t think they look beautiful nor have any talent. They constantly feel inferior amongst others. They look down on themselves and mistakenly give heed to the accusing voices of the devil. Don’t let that be you. Eleanor Roosevelt said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” God will use your shortcomings to thrust you into amazing things God has in store for you.

This is what happened to Zacchaeus in the Bible. He had two things going against him. He had a bad reputation as a tax-collector and he was short in stature. Understandably, Zacchaeus allowed his self-esteem to drop but deep in his heart, he had a desire for God. He wanted to do the right thing. He wanted to see Jesus. There was no way for sinner Zacchaeus to get close to the Holy Man but he was determined. So he ran ahead and climbed up a sycamore tree. You know, today, people everywhere are looking for Jesus. If we Christians were a little more sensitive to their need and less judgmental to their sins, many more will follow Him. That’s exactly what happened to Zac. Jesus overlooked all the people pressing on Him and looked straight to Zac and said, “Come down, we’re going to dinner together.”  Jesus saw the heart of Zacchaeus while people looked at his shortcomings. Friend, Jesus is looking at you today. If you’re wrestling with your past, let it go; there’s no future there. The enemy has kept you crippled for too long. Why don’t you accept God’s free gift of forgiveness and mercy? He has a life waiting for you that you cannot comprehend. Today is your day. Will you turn to Christ?

Friend, there’s no better time to get your life right with God than this time of Christmas. Jesus said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.” That’s Good News my friend. It doesn’t matter where you have been. What matters is where God can take you. Will you say this prayer with me? “Dear Jesus, I know I have sinned. I need a Savior. I accept you as my Lord. I repent from my sins. Give me the strength to overcome sin and bad habits by the power of your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name.” Friend, if you prayed that prayer, you’re born again. Tell someone about your experience today and let the God of peace lead and guide you in all Truth. I’m praying for you!

Broadcast Yourself

We live in the age of media, social networks and webcams that bring instant attention to whatever we want to promote. Often things we see are not very wholesome. But there’s a way you can broadcast yourself without costing you a dime.

Smile.

Yesterday, I got the biggest compliment when someone said to me, “You always have a smile on your face!” I’m not conscience of it anymore but yes there was a time when I made it my personal growth plan to “learn to smile.” Our smile has powerful implications. Researchers say it take forty seven muscles to frown but only four to smile. Today we’ll look at many benefits of smile and laughter.

Our smile is the billboard that either draws people to us or repels people from us. When we smile, we’re saying, I like you; I’d like to get to know you better. If our eyes are the window to our soul, our smile is the window to our heart. When we smile, we express the joy in our hearts. A smile breaks down barrier and makes us welcoming to strangers.

When I was in “smile training” I made me think happy thoughts or a funny incident to get me going. I’m sure, at times, people thought I was stupid. But that didn’t stop me from my smile exercise. Soon it became so part of me that I was smiling naturally. I didn’t have to fake it or manufacture it. I had a cheerful continence without making any effort. Now, everywhere I go people are drawn to me because they feel welcomed to talk to me.

I’ve always felt awkward watching Christian movies where Jesus is characterized as a serious, mystical figure. Sometimes even his voice is altered and it sounds very fake and religious. In a recent version, Jesus is smiling when He comes out of the waters of baptism. He plays with the kids and jokes with the disciples. I believe that Jesus was a lighthearted man. People felt safe to be around him. His smile made people comfortable.  His smile broadcasted His heart.

Modern medical science is finding out the benefits of smile, laughter and a cheerful continence. The neuroscience section of the Discovery Channel lists some of the advantages of laughter. It lowers blood pressure. It reduces stress hormones. It increases disease-killing cells. It releases endorphins – a feel good hormone that reduces stress. It strengthens the immune system. It improves memory and creativity. I don’t know about you but I’ll smile all day just to get the benefit of any one of these. I love it when medical science proves age-old truths in the Bible. God’s Word says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine” (Proverbs. 17:22 NLT). Did you know in many nursing homes, old comedies are being played? It’s bringing healing and lengthening the days of its occupants. Laughter brings longevity.

In our recent missions trip to China, we’re standing in a long line trying to enter the Great Wall. It was a very hot day and there were no covers anywhere. Hundreds of people were packed like sardines. My team and I were all very uncomfortable. Suddenly, I spotted a little Chinese boy and his sister who were with their mother and grandparents. They were being impatient like us. I smiled and made some friendly gestures and immediately they responded. Soon we’re laughing, tickling, playing and providing entertainment to at least couple of dozen people standing in the line around us. The time passed must faster. When we’re about to enter the gate those two kids made their way in front of us to say bye to us. I put my hands on them and prayed a silent prayer for them to know Jesus and serve Him someday.

Smile my friend. It suits you. It will add years to your life. When we broadcast ourselves with a smile, people know we’re open for business. They feel safe to befriend us. We can be healing balm to those who are hurting. A smile, laughter and a merry heart does good like a medicine. Smile!

“All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast” (Proverbs 15:15 ESV).

Dignity of Labor

Work has been a part of man’s life since the beginning of creation. God gave Adam a garden to care for. He made Eve to improve Adam! If we’re to live a balanced life, it is important for us to have the right attitude towards work.

John D. Rockefeller was a businessman and philanthropist. He said, “I believe in the dignity of labor, whether with head or hand; that the world owes no man a living but it owes every man an opportunity to make a living.” America is one of the greatest countries in the world to provide opportunity and reward work excellence. Yet there are more people today who are going on social welfare simply because they don’t want to work.

My friend Ben came to this country with seventy dollars in his pocket. He understood the value of work and opportunity. He worked through several menial jobs but today has three thriving restaurants in Colorado, serving Himalayan cuisines. He employs over fifty local college students and hires chefs from Nepal. His family supports our ministry sending destitute children to school.

God’s Word provides instructions on work and ethics. One of my favorite verses is, “If a man should not work, he shouldn’t eat.” (2 Thessalonians 3:10). It is God’s will for us to work. One mistake people often make is to wait for a perfect job. While it’s good to pray, believe and search for the job of your dream, it is better to start with the best job you can get and work your way to the top. Don’t worry about promotion and the time it takes to get to the top, just be your best at what you have. The cream always rises to the top.

If you’re an employee, work as unto the Lord. Your work-life is a daily sermon to your co-workers. If you’re coming to work on time, putting in a full day’s work, reliable, kind, team player and productive soon they’ll begin to question about your God. You’re setting a God-standard at work when you don’t gossip or talk down on the management. When you’re practicing your Sunday values at work, you’re being a witness for Christ. Your example will draw men and women to the Lord.

Employers, be fair to your co-workers. Recently I was visiting with my friend Ms. Joyce. She works for some other friends of mine in an insurance business. I was having dinner at her home with her children and grandchildren. When the subject of work came up, Ms. Joyce couldn’t say enough nice things about her employers and her office. She kept bragging on the kindness of her boss and the flexibility they offer. The owners go out of their way to treat their employees with great love, respect and honor. Is there any wonder that the company is doing well in spite of the economy! We have workers in our ministry who have been with us fifteen, twenty years because they feel the love and care we provide for them and their families.

A very important part of life is to have balance. I know many friends who are workaholics. All their conversations and social life revolves around work. This is not healthy. People at work are too stressed out today. If you make God your Provider, you’ll be less stressed and more productive. Don’t be a lion at work and come home to give the leftover (time, effort and energy) to your family. Don’t miss out on the best part of life. Once a week, keep a day reserved for your family. Don’t take business calls, emails or do other work activity. When your family sees you value your family, spend time with them and keep healthy boundaries then they will love, respect and honor you more.

“If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need” (Ephesians 4:28 NLT).

Understanding Your Value

Many people go through life, feeling very little of themselves. I’ve been there myself. They entertain thoughts like, I’m not attractive. I’m not smart. I’m not educated.  I’ll never amount to much in life. The enemy wants to deceive us into believing that there’s nothing good in us. This is the enemy’s biggest lie!

Jesus said, “Love your neighbor like you love yourself.” This is not some ego trip prescription he gave us. He is not suggesting that we become narcissist and obsessed with ourselves. He is telling us to like and love ourselves so that we can love others.  This cannot happen until we understand our true value. The price of a commodity is not determined by the product itself but by what the market is willing to pay for it. God paid the ultimate price for you and me. You’re nothing less than spectacular!

Cynthia Ann was born on February 20, 1966. She was one of four children. Her brother Jeffrey died of leukemia when she was only ten years old. She had turbulent teenage years but astonishingly Cynthia graduated first her class from high school. She left to study engineering but in order to support herself Cynthia had to get a $4 an hour job shucking corn. So she quit college to take up a modeling job in Chicago.

Cindy had the perfect measurement to be a model. At five feet nine inches tall, she had the perfect figure. However, she had one flaw. Cindy had a mole on the left corner of her upper lip. How could this mole ever allow her to be a supermodel? In the beginning of her career, the mole was removed from her earlier modeling pictures. Later, Cindy came to terms with the mole on her face. She decided to go “natural” with her mole. A symbol of imperfection but it brought the greatest fame for Cynthia. It was the imperfect mole that separated her from the masses in the modeling industry.

Today, Cindy Crawford is a household name. She has appeared in more than 400 magazine covers. Cindy is considered one the greatest supermodels of our time. Certainly she’s beautiful all around but mostly she’s recognized all over the world by the mole in the corner of her lips. The one thing that should have disqualified her from stardom is the very thing God used to give her an unprecedented career in modeling. God will do the same for you!

Friend, don’t focus on your weaknesses, focus on your strength. Learn to think good about yourself. Many people mistakenly think that’s not being humble. Humility is not about us. It’s about accepting who God made us to be. It’s about ascribing everything we are and everything we have to our great God. Humility is deflecting the glory to our heavenly Father.

This is what our Master had to do for Himself. In Luke chapter seven, John the Baptist, sent his disciples to ask Jesus who He was!  Interestingly, Jesus did not say He was the son of a carpenter with no education and no sophisticated manners.  He didn’t say he was from a little town of Bethlehem.  He boldly said, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard; that the blind see the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.”  Jesus knew who He was. He knew His value and purpose on earth.  He was humble but He didn’t look at Himself as less or inferior. He gave full credit to His heavenly Father.

We must learn to do the same with our lives. When Jesus died for us on the cross, His blood made us worthy. We were sinners but His mercy bought us with a great price and now we are sons and daughters of God. It will be offensive if we did not accept God’s value on our lives. In God’s eyes, we’re priceless created in His own image. We don’t have to brag about ourselves but we can brag on God. We belong to the Royal class we belong to God’s own family. Shake off the insecurity. Like Cindy, overlook the mole and accept who you are. You may not be on magazine cover but you’re tattooed on God’s Hands!
