I meet many people who are very strong
in their faith to believe in God or people they know but when it comes to their
own self-esteem they are not too confident. Some mistakenly think this is
humility. Unless we have a healthy image of ourselves, we cannot become all that
God created us to be.
Some people think that our value comes
from the way we look, the family we’re born into or the social status or connections
we have. They put a lot of emphasis on the external but our real value comes
from what is internal. We’ve all seen little dogs chasing away a big one
because they have a big dog mentality. I’ve found that how we look at ourselves
is directly connected to how we’ll fare in life. When we’re in relationship
with God, growing and giving we can feel secure about who we are. When you
believe in yourself, others will believe you.
A great way to add value to oneself is
to think and say positive things about yourself. We’re not talking about being
prideful or boasting. Believing in yourself means, somehow, someway, by the
grace of God you know you can be and do whatever is in front of you. It means
when you’re confronted with a tough situation, the first thought in your mind
is, “God is with me. I can handle this.”
And then announce it to the world that you’re going to take responsibility for
what needs to get done.
In the Bible, the Israelites sent
twelve spies to check out the land. Only two came back with a positive report.
The others came back with excuses. They said, “We’re like grasshoppers in our own sight.” Notice, it was their
own opinion of themselves. Their inner dialogue was one of defeat. All twelve
spies saw the same thing but only two believed in themselves and their God. Unfortunately,
they were the only two that went into the Promised Land. What do you see in
yourself?
Some people struggle with their self-image
because of what others have said about them. While we should be open to hear
what people have to say, we should never establish our self-value based on what
others say. We’re thinking highest of ourselves when we agree with what God has
to say about us.
So, let me remind you. You’re created
in the image of God. You belong to the Royal family. You have the “can do”
power of God bubbling inside of you. You’re created to live in health and
happiness. You can overcome any obstacle. You can run a successful business and
a corporation. You’re created to have long-lasting meaningful relationships.
You’re born to win. Giving is your second nature. You’re kind, loyal and
faithful. Your children will be mighty in the land. You’ll live a long,
satisfied life. You have God-fidence. You can do all things through Christ who
strengthens you.
Don’t spend another day thinking less
of yourself. You have the right looks, the right talents and the right
connections to achieve all that God has created you to be. Believe in yourself.
God believes in You! I’m praying for
you.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in
Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago” (Ephesians 2:10 NLT).
What
are your thoughts?
