7 Keys for Empowering Our Young People

This week I witnessed my nephew and niece, David and Isabella Anderson, graduate from their high school. Isabella graduated with honors and ranked in the top fifteen percent, while David was among the first in his engineering class! I am extremely proud of them. Isabella will study international business while David wants to become an international architect. Their parents have worked hard to instill a world vision in both of these young people. They have caught the vision to attempt great things in life.
I believe our young people are brilliant, hardworking, and have creative genius. They will do more for their generation than we can ever dream. They will create, invent, achieve, and discover things we have not even considered. But they need you! Today, I want to give you seven keys to empower your young people.
1. Give them a lofty ambition. Too many of us are settling for much less than what we were created to be. Life has robbed us of our childhood dreams. Do not make the mistake of robbing them of theirs. We may have missed it, but we cannot allow our young people to think small. Encourage them to believe they can invent, discover, lead, and own. The bigger the challenge, the higher they will perform.
Brian Littrell was the lead singer of the successful band Backstreet Boys. He was born with a heart defect. In 1998, he went through multiple surgeries to close a hole in his heart. All the odds were against him. But he had a lofty ambition. Brian said, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.”
2. Create an environment and opportunity for them. We are the product of our environment. Even God looked at our sinful world and sent Jesus to give us a vision of passion, purpose, and pride. I have seen thousands of young lives transformed by the environment created by our ministry.
I met Sanjay when he was in his early twenties. He became a Christian while attending one of our conferences in New Delhi, India. Prior to his salvation, Sanjay was living in fear and running from the authorities because he was a drug addict and a drug dealer. He went through a course in our Mission Training Center where his life was transformed. Today, Sanjay is ministering to tens of thousands.
3. Teach them more about responsibilities than rights. I have found people respond more to bragging than to nagging. If you want young people to mature, you have to say, “This is what needs to be done. This is what I expect. This is the amount of time in which to finish it.” Then you must “inspect what you expect.” Encourage them along the way, “What a great job you’re doing. I believe in you!” If you give them something to live up to, they will! Young people are crying out for someone to believe in them and to expect them to do a phenomenal job.
4. Teach them to be overcomers. Nobody became a success without some mistakes. Our mistakes may be some of the steps on the ladder of their success, but they will make their own. One of the greatest enemies of success is the fear of failure. Teach your young people to take bold steps. Teach them to think, “What if this does work out!” When they make a mistake, share your own, and tell them they can move past it, too!
5. Introduce them to your support system. As much as we want the young generation to be independent, it is much easier to build on an existing foundation. They do not have to do what God called you to do. But you have a network of friends, resources, and a support system your young people can build on. Why cause them to reinvent the wheel?
6. Expose them to the world. With the increasing threat/blessing of globalization, challenge your young people to make the world their playground. When we think of our future in the same town, state, or country we grew up, we are thinking too small. The global community will leave them a pauper unless we prepare our young people to have a global perspective.
7. Teach them to make God their partner. We can have all the success in the world, but unless our mission is connected to our Creator, our success will be mortal. When we do what we do for an eternal purpose, then we are living for a divine purpose. With God on our side, we can achieve anything!
Friend, God has given you some exceptional young people. Respect and recognize their individuality. Your job is not to make them who you are but to create an environment for them to discover who God has created them to be. Our job is to facilitate, guide, and encourage. You have had a shot at your life – now allow them to live theirs. Speak positive, affirmative words over their lives. You can never over-emphasize their values and vision. They have what it takes. They will only climb to the heights you allow them. Give them permission to excel in life. Become their mentor, consultant, role model, and friend. Do not just be satisfied with helping your own family; help, assist, and empower other young people you know. With your blessing, and God on their side, your young people will go on to achieve exceptional things. Friend, somebody believed in you long before you were a success; now it is your turn to believe in them!
Congratulations David and Isabella Anderson! I believe in you.

Starting Late Finishing Strong

My friend Jerry is a soft spoken salesman who has worked in the insurance industry for forty-eight years. He has been very successful in his career. He has also been president of multiple organizations. He is a leader in his Jewish temple. Jerry is seventy years old but he does not look a day over sixty. When I asked him, “When are you planning to retire?” He said, “I’m not planning on it.” But what struck me most about Jerry is his enthusiasm for life.

Mark Twain once said, “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” Often as we grow older, we think we have lived the best of our lives. But the secret of staying young and full of vitality is to recognize our best is yet to come. Instead of sitting around talking about the “good ‘ol’ days,” we must look for fresh opportunities for God to use us.

Psalm 92:14 says, “They will still bear fruit in old age; they will stay fresh and green.” Isaiah 40:31 tells us when we put our hope in the Lord, He renews our strength; He gives us more energy and makes us vibrant and alive. Psalm 103:5 says, God “He fills my life with good things.  My youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” Remember, God wants to bless you, renew you and satisfy you with long life. Seek His ways and put your faith, hope and trust in Him and let Him renew every part of your life!

When I asked Jerry what advice he has for senior citizens, he said, “Find a purpose in your life and then get busy serving. In some way, give back to the community.” I could not agree more with Jerry.

This is what my friend Ron Paul is doing. Ron is a Vietnam veteran. He was exposed to Agent Orange – a chemical that was spread over the dense jungles of Vietnam in the intent to clear the ground. The chemical was so powerful that within days, the trees lost all their leaves, standing bare naked, clearing the ground so the soldiers could see where the Viet -Conges were hiding. Our veterans were told Agent Orange was safe but it had not been tested properly. Consequently, thousands of soldiers came back home to suffer horrible pain caused by a damaged nerve system. Ron told me some days the pain is so excruciating; he can hardly get up from bed! Twenty- five years ago, I met Ron in Hong Kong. But to this day, I have yet to hear a complaint come out of his mouth. On the contrary, he has always been funny and encouraging, and he is often helping others. Even when he describes his pain, he is careful not to blame the government or criticize the military. He has an attitude of gratitude. To top it off, Ron spends most of his days volunteering in his church, writing notes to missionaries and supporting ministries such as ours. Ron might have received some lemons in his life, but he has turned lemons into lemonade. So can you!

Do not focus on who did you wrong or how hard life has been for you. Instead, like Ron, talk about the great things you have experienced in life. Play with your kids. Be fun and witty to be around. Share your experience and knowledge with someone so they can learn from your mistakes without paying the price you paid to learn. Be a mentor.

This is what my father does. My Dad is eighty-one years old but he is always surrounded by young people. He lived a tough life. My mother died when Dad was in his twenties. We were four brothers. Knowing that he would not be able to care for us without mom, he took us to a Christian orphanage. He was allowed to visit us only a couple of times a year, but he came to visit every chance he could.

As I grew older, I went on to college and left the country to do missions work around the world. My Dad and I lost touch. Dad never harbored bitterness or resentment toward anybody. After sixteen years, I went in search of my Dad. I found him amongst the billion people in India, travelling on a train. What a reunion that was! I picked him up and announced to the packed train, “Attention, people! This is my Dad. I’m meeting him after sixteen years!” The whole compartment erupted in joy, clapping their hands. Dad and I both had tears in our eyes.

What is great about my Dad is he can always be found surrounded by young people. He listens to them, encourages them, and prays for them, and counsels them. He has never been a public figure. But he has been a mentor to hundreds of young people who have impacted millions. No matter how old you are, you can impact others too. Start now.

Do you have an unreconciled relationship with your loved one? Be like my Dad. Do not get discouraged and bitter. Do your best to keep a good attitude. You are not worthless because you made some mistakes or someone left you. Society may call you “old” but in the eyes of God, you’re “gold!” You still have more in your future than all the failure in your past. Never let failures define you. They are simply reminders not to walk that road again.

Isaiah the Prophet reminds us, “Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it?” (Isaiah 43:18-19, The Message) I am here to declare over you that your best days are right ahead of you. At age eighty-five, Caleb claimed his mountain.  What do you believe God for in your life right now?

Friend, do not live the rest of your life recalling regrets. Talk about your victories.  Share how you overcame life’s battles. Tell a struggling generation, that life is not perfect, but they are going to make it. Get busy serving somewhere. Be a person of inspiration. Be someone people can look up to and respect.

Long ago, a mentor told me, “Great it is to dream the dream when you stand in youth by the starry stream... but a greater thing is to fight life through, and say in the end, the dream is true.” Friend, dreams have no expiration date. You may start late, but you can finish strong!

Native Missionaries Transforming Lives

I cannot thank you enough for the friendship and partnership we have in spreading the message of Hope through our Lord. You are a vital part of everything that happens through this ministry. My team and I pray for you and your success, every day.

God is doing a marvelous thing in the mission fields of Asia. It is taking place because of a combination of three things. Our God, the Native Missionaries and You! Our co-workers on the ground are winning people to the Lord, everywhere they go. God is healing, saving, and restoring people into His Kingdom. Let me share with you their impact on the mission field of Asia.

Rebecca started to work as a trapeze artist at the age of eleven in order to support her mother. One day she had an accident. She fell without a safety net and shattered hundreds of bones. By the miraculous healing power of God, she was saved and healed. Later, she came to our Mission Training Center.  We poured the love of God into her. Today, Rebecca leads our Life Lessons Radio teaching millions of people.

David grew up in an orphanage in India. In his village, there was no college he could attend. Later, the Lord opened doors for him to go to a Bible School where he graduated with flying colors. Thirty years later, Pastor David and his men have planted hundreds of churches and thousands of lives have been transformed by his ministry.

Native Missionaries like Rebecca and David are like ground soldiers in a war. They endure the hardship, are beaten, persecuted, and some are killed, but they continue faithfully. They are equipped with the local language and culture. Their testimony in the local context speaks volumes to the people. Native Missionaries cost only $120-$250 a month depending on their location and the size of their family. Will you prayerfully consider partnering with one of them? Together with your family, friends, associates, or business, you can be the vital lifeline for one of these life changers. When you do, you begin to inherit their fruits in the Gospel.

Let me remind you how much your prayers and partnership means to us. None of what we do is possible without your love, encouragement, and support. Here is what the Word of God says about you. “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:25 NIV). We are praying for you to prosper in your body, mind, spirit, and soul!

7 Mother's Day Secrets

The curious angel asked, “Whatcha doin’, God, working a puzzle?”  “No,” God answered, smiling, “I’m making a family.”  The idea was interesting, and the curious angel began asking questions, “A family… sure are a lot of parts.  What are the big pieces?”  “Those are the fathers.”  “Aren’t they too large?”  “No, they have to be strong.  They work hard and bear a lot of burdens.  They’re the image of the Heavenly Father and the security for their families,” said God.

“And the pretty pieces,” the angel asked, “what are they?”  “They are the mothers,” God answered.  “They sure are pretty, but fragile, too, huh God?”  God replied, “Don’t let their looks deceive.  They are small and pretty, but most of them are stronger than men.  You see, mothers need to look pretty, but they are strong inside.  Their greatest strength is their love and their tenderness.  They love ugly men and runny-nose babies.”

“What are the little pieces?”  “They’re the children,” God answered.  “They make the families complete.  Fathers and mothers conceive the little children, but I give them a soul.”

“I hope it works,” the angel sighed.  “It has to,” God said.  “Mothers keep the family together.”

I pray that every mother will feel loved, honored and appreciated as we celebrate “Mothers Day.”  Here are seven things every mother must know.

1.  Embrace your purpose as a mother.  “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.”  Remember, you are not God’s adult; you’re His child.  God knows you and He is absolutely crazy about you.  He has called you to be a helper.  You’re chosen to raise royal men and women of God.

2. You’re beautiful; inside and out.  Surrounded with dirty laundry, messy house and runny noses it is hard to feel beautiful.  But God put true beauty inside of you.  You don’t have to perform; you ARE beautiful.  Everything God makes is first class!

3. You can forgive and forget.  I know many women who are caught in the past.  You may have been bruised, betrayed and wronged but do yourself a favor – forgive!  Until you let go of the past, God cannot open the great future ahead of you.  Focus on what’s right rather than what’s wrong.

4. Your strength comes from God.  Isaiah tells us, “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.”  Do you feel weak, lonely and discouraged today?  Well you’re the best candidate to receive God’s strength.  The Scriptures says, “My strength is made perfect in (your) weakness.”

5. See the big picture.  When you feel your emotions rising, ask yourself; is it a 5 minute, 5 hour or 5 year problem?  Go easy on the first two and focus on the long term.  “Live like you’re dying,” as one country song goes.  If you had six months to live, what would be your perspective in life?  Would you get so easily offended?  Would you hold onto hurt, bitterness and anger?

6. Invest in yourself.  What brings you joy and pleasure?  What makes you laugh?  Sometimes you are so focused on taking care of others you forget to take care of yourself.  Stop Mom!  Take care of yourself too -- guilt free!

7. Enjoy this moment.  Too many Moms are either stuck on yesterday or dreaming about the future.  Like children, God wants us to live in the present.  Enjoy the little footsteps you hear running towards you.  Savor on the complements your family gives you.  Have fun doing the chores that need to be done.  Remember, the season you’re in will not last forever.  What you choose to do at this moment will determine what kind of memories you’ll have to look back on.

Happy Mother’s Day!

God Sees the Best in You

A water bearer in China had two large pots hung on the ends of a bamboo pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water. At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water to his house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do. After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself because this crack in my side causes water to leak all the way back to your house."

The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house."

Friend, each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are, and look for the good in them.
I meet too many people around the world who feel God is not pleased with them. They feel weak, unloved and unworthy of God’s love and blessings. Yet, nothing is more real than God’s love, forgiveness and mercy. He doesn’t go around with a stick waiting for us to make a mistake; instead He commands angels to carry around buckets of blessings for us.

The Bibles says, “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him (2 Chronicles 16:9 ESV).” That means He’s scanning for our hearts and when He finds one, He dumps a load of blessing on that person to advance His Kingdom on earth.

One of the things that keeps us from being our best is the nagging, condemning voices that play like a broken record, over and over in our mind. I was just talking to a friend the other day and she said, “Sandy, I’m afraid my life is falling apart. I think I’ve made too many mistakes. I don’t want to end up in a homeless shelter.” I realize these are real fears and I don’t make light of her feelings. But I told her what I’m telling you today. God is not mad at you; He’s greatly in love with you. If you can see it from His perspective, you’ll know how much He loves you! He always has; always will.

We’re familiar with the story of the prodigal's son in the Bible. The youngest son spends all his inheritance in unrighteous living. One day sitting in a pig pen he decides to return to his father’s house. To prepare for his first conversation, he drafts a script in his mind. The son said to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son."But the father said to his servants, "Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate." (Luke 15:21-23 NIV)

The Scripture says, “While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." (Luke 15:20 NIV) This is the only picture of God running in the Bible. What is He running to – a saint, a prophet, a religious man? No, no, no. God is running to a broken man who acknowledges his wrongs and decides to change. Instead of getting angry, He told his servants to bring out the royal robe, a ring and sandals. This is the greatness of our God.

No matter what we’ve done, God loves and forgives you. He knows your weakness, but He also knows your value. He sees not the way you are but the way you can be. Be confident, knowing that God sees only the best in you. He has a plan for you higher than you think. You’re His prized treasure. You’re the apple of His eyes. You cannot do anything in life to disown His love. He does not have the capacity to give up on you, so why should you give up on yourself?

Have you ever been to a little league games? There may be dozens of little boys playing in the field but your eyes are fixed on your little son. No matter how bad he does, you jump with excitement if your son barely touches the ball. Only you know what you do if your son scores! Religion teaches us otherwise, but that’s the way our Heavenly Father rejoices over us. He doesn’t keep count of our mistakes and faults. Instead, He highlights our achievements.

Friend, accept God’s unconditional love in to your life. You may have a few cracks in your pot, but you cause the beautiful flowers to bloom. You may have made a few wrong choices, but God’s mercy will give you another royal start. There’s nothing you can do to diminish your value. Stop listening to the negative voices in your mind. Lift up your head and accept His unwavering love for you.

God only sees the best in you!

Explosive Blessing is Coming Your Way

During my recent trip to Asia, I learned about the Chinese bamboo tree. This remarkable tree is different from most trees that grow in that region. While most trees steadily grow over a period of years, the Chinese bamboo tree does not break through the ground for the first four years. Then in the fifth year, an amazing phenomenon happens — the tree begins to grow at an astonishing rate. Over a period of five weeks, the Chinese bamboo tree can grow to a height of 80 feet. As if captured by a slow motion camera, you can practically see the tree growing before your very eyes.

Life often happens in a similar way. You can work for weeks, months, or even years on your dream with no visible signs of progress, and then all of a sudden, things take off. Your business becomes profitable beyond your wildest dreams. Your marriage becomes more vibrant and passionate than you ever thought it could be. Your passion to reach the world through Build International Ministries becomes more compelling than you have ever imagined!

All of this requires two things – faith and hard work. Those who tend the Chinese bamboo tree have faith that if they keep watering and fertilizing and working the ground, the tree will break through. You must have the same kind of faith in your "bamboo tree," whether it is running a successful business, walking in health, raising well-behaved children, or getting your finances in order. You must have faith that as you work hard, live healthy and exercise, train your children, invest in your spouse, or develop wise financial habits, that you will see rapid growth in the future.

This is what happened to Ruth. Scripture tells us that Ruth was loyal to her mother-in-law, Naomi, even after her husband had died. When Naomi wanted to return to her own country, she gave Ruth the choice to return to her kinsfolk. Ruth was loyal at heart. She decided to follow Naomi.
When they reached Bethlehem, they did not have much more than a roof over their head. Naomi had a relative who was a wealthy man and owned a lot of land. Ruth went to the field owned by Boaz and gleaned after the reapers. It was hard labor, a hand-to-mouth struggle, for Ruth and Naomi. God saw Ruth’s faithfulness to Naomi and her willingness to work hard and serve the True and Living God of Israel. Ruth found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

God sent Ruth explosive blessing. One day, Boaz went to check on his land and saw Ruth gathering after the reapers. He inquired about her and told his men to “leave handfuls of grain on purpose” for Ruth to take home (Ruth 2:16). Soon after, Boaz began to develop a liking for Ruth. Soon they were married. Think about it. One day Ruth was working in the field, and the next, she became the owner of the field!

Friend, this is how God wants to bless you. He knows how hard you are working to grow your “bamboo tree.” You have planted, watered, and fertilized the soil, and now is the time for explosive growth and increase of God’s grace (unmerited favor) in your life. He is orchestrating connections, divine appointments, and opportunities for explosive blessings to overtake you.

The scripture says, “When darkness overtakes the godly, light will come bursting in.” (Psalm 112:4) Notice it does not say God’s blessing will start to drip or faintly appear; it says His light will come bursting in. In today’s context, it will be an explosive blessing. It will not just be a small addition to what you already have, but it will set you up for the next five, ten, or even twenty years ahead!

When the lame beggar at the temple Beautiful approached Peter and John for some small change for lunch, he got much more than he had bargained for. (Acts 3:1-10) It was the day of God’s explosive blessing to be unleashed upon this disabled man. Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have but in the name of Jesus, rise up and walk.” The Bible says, “Immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.” He went on his merry way, “walking, leaping and praising God.” One moment he was begging for lunch money and in the next he was strong enough to go to work for himself and earn a living for his family. That is the kind of explosive blessing God has in store for you!

What is it that is holding you back? God is poised to bless you with unprecedented blessing. Cast away your small thinking and begin to expect the explosive blessing. If you are asking God for what you can achieve by yourself, you are not thinking big enough. God said, “Ask of Me, and I will give you the nations for your inheritance.” (Psalm 2:8)  That is what God has done for me. In the last twenty-six years, I have ministered in over forty nations.

It is time for you to receive your explosive blessing.

Sometimes, in our doubt, we dig up our seed and plant it elsewhere, in hopes that it will grow faster in more fertile ground. This is why people change jobs every year. We also see people change churches, organizations, and even spouses in the pursuit of greener pastures. More often than not, these people are greatly disappointed when their tree does not grow any faster in the new location.

Do not make the mistake of getting in a hurry and pulling up your seed. Stay committed and connected. Bloom where you are planted. Remain faithful to what God has given you now. There is a tsunami of breakthrough coming that will catapult you to a place of God’s explosive blessing. Your “fifth year of growth” is here now. Like the Chinese bamboo tree, you will experience astonishing growth. Like Ruth, you will go from working in the business to owning the business!

You have a bamboo tree inside of you waiting to break through. Keep watering, believing, and working hard; you will be flying high before you know it.

An explosive blessing is coming your way. Get ready for everything to change in your life!

See Your Impact! Reaching China with the Good News

I have just returned from our mission trip to communist China where social media is forbidden and freedom is restricted. Persecution is rampant and the Word of God is in short supply. But our God is alive in China!

My first stop was in Hong Kong (a special administrative region of China). There I reconnected with my pastor friends (I was based there for 13 years) who are still faithfully serving the Lord. Sunday services were packed with hundreds of worshippers – mostly young people. After the message, people flocked to the altar to be saved and ministered to. As I prayed for them, I saw many respond with tears and humble hearts. I heard of another church with over 10,000 people! God is working.

In my previous letter, I shared about Pastor Joanna who has a network of 6,000 believers. Along with a team of three others, she came to spend time with us in Shanghai. They are on fire, but they have no one to mentor them. We had the opportunity to love on them, encourage them, guide them, and pray over them; this was one of the highlights of our trip. They went back to their community committed to love God more, and serve His people better.

Our next stop was Wenzhou where Christianity is growing at an astounding rate! It is a prosperous region of China. We met one pastor who told us his network of churches has over 600,000 believers! He took us to visit some of those "churches." One was located in an electrical switch manufacturing company. The owner is a Christian. He told us, "At first I had to hire anyone I could find. But now more than 80% of my employees are Christians." In the darkness of night, we sneaked into his factory. All 120 of his employees plus more were worshipping the Lord at the top of their lungs! What a great time we had ministering to them.

We also were able to minister at a drug rehabilitation/Bible School/Church facility. In China, both the possession of drugs and drug use are punishable by death. This was a secret location where drug addicts come for help. Teachers are former drug addicts, set free by our Lord. There were over 100 people – mostly young – eager to hear from us. When we gave an altar call, half of the congregation came forward.

Another highlight of our trip was distributing the Bibles you helped to provided. Every time we distributed a Bible, we saw, smiles, tears, joy, and gratitude. It was a great consolation to leave our persecuted brothers and sisters in China with the most powerful gift in the world,  - the Word of God. It is not only changing their lives, but their culture and nation, as well!

We cannot thank you enough for going with us to China through your prayers, encouragement, and support. You have an inheritance through everything that was achieved on this trip. Please pray and help with the remainder of the budget for this trip. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Let me end with a reminder of God's promise to you, "God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them (Hebrews 6:10)."

Don't Commit Treason Against Yourself

One of the greatest challenges in life is forgiveness. Millions of people, even Christians are trapped in the prison of unforgiveness. And it robs God’s people of their peace, joy, health, and happiness. As we celebrate Easter, we can draw inspiration from the Master, whose ultimate goal was to forgive our sins and show us how to forgive others.

We all have unfair things happen to us. You may not think you can forgive those who have hurt you. But the truth is God has placed the ability in each of us to forgive because He knows we ourselves need to be forgiven. That is why the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus is so crucial to our faith. Without His forgiveness, we are doomed forever. Without learning to forgive, we abdicate our amazing future into the hands of our offenders. When you forgive, you set a prisoner free, and that prisoner is - you!

When we allow anger, hurt, and resentment to control us, we are allowing those who hurt us to have control in our lives. When we dwell on these thoughts and relive them over and over, we poison our own future from being able to blossom and flourish in the hand of a merciful God.

Several years ago, I had a painful experience with a co-worker. I invested thirteen years to train and groom a young man. He was like my son and a brother in the faith, – a jewel in my crown.

In the last year of working together, the Lord kept prompting that something was wrong. Time and again, I ignored it. In my eyes, this young man could do no wrong. How could he? After all, I had taught him right, – not only from my wisdom but also from the experience of my own mistakes. Without any probing on my own, the Lord exposed everything. The lies, betrayal, and deception came to light. I gave this man a choice to turn around but he did not want to. We parted ways.

I was angry, bitter, and resentful. I would continue to review the evidence stacked against him. I would read the emails that were lies. This offense consumed me!

Knowing better, after a period of time, I wrote him a letter of forgiveness. I expressed my desire to forgive him. I told him I would not hold any grudge against him. I tried to make it as easy on him to reconcile as I could. Unfortunately, he wrote me back without much of an apology, blaming me instead, covering up his wrong. I realized at that moment it was time to release this offense to the Lord. Since that day, he does not control me anymore. I feel great about forgiving him, but I feel better that I do not carry that offense anymore.

I have preached many messages on forgiveness, but this incident taught me a great lesson. Forgiveness is not benevolence, it is a necessity. It is about letting go of something that happened to you in the past so you can take hold of the amazing future God has in store for you. When you forgive people who have done you wrong, God will bring restoration to you. He will settle the account in such ways you never could. He will bring justice that no earthly judicial system can match.

After the resurrection, Jesus came back to talk to his disciples. In John 20:23, He said, “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” What this verse says is that we have the power to forgive an offense or we risk the danger of becoming the same person we hate.

It is far better to forgive and forget than to hate and remember. When you do not forgive, you bear arms against yourself. Do not commit treason against your own life and purpose. Your future depends on many things; one is your ability to forgive. Unforgiveness blocks blessing; forgiveness releases blessing. Sometimes our prayers are not answered because we are not willing to forgive someone (Mark 11:25).

Forgiveness is not easy, but it is possible.  Here is a three step process that can help  you. First, make a decision to forgive (even when you feel otherwise). Second, say out loud or express to the person who offended you, "I forgive you!" Third, frequently remind yourself of your own need of forgiveness from the Lord. Quit dwelling on the offense. Stop replaying it in your mind over and over. Stop fueling bitterness by giving it an ounce of your time and energy.

Paul says in Ephesians 4:31-32, "Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you (NIV)."

The best way you can celebrate this Easter is to release the past and claim the future. Forgiveness does not erase the former, but it does improve the later. Ask yourself: If God is willing to forgive all my sins, who am I to hold out on forgiving others?

Forgive - it's the last thing the enemy wants you to do!

Reaching China with the Good News

On March 16, we will embark on our next mission trip to China. Your unwavering prayer, encouragement, and support is helping us to fulfill the Great Commission.

The greatest revival on earth today is taking place in communist China. There are over 100 million followers of Christ. Bibles are often forbidden, considered as pornographic material and not readily available in China. This has created a substantial shortage of the Word of God throughout the land, especially in rural areas where revival is most evident.

On our last trip to China, we worked with Pastor T. He has spent years in prison for his service to the Lord. T's church is very active in winning lost souls. Pastor T told us, "In some of the remote areas of China, we did not see a single Bible in churches or in the hands of believers until we began handing out the Bibles you provided through your generosity." There are tens of thousands of believers living in rural China praying to have their first Bible.

One of our goals is to equip house churches with Bibles. During our last trip, we witnessed Christians in tears kissing the Bibles we distributed. Believers in China are severely persecuted. A Bible is their comfort from God.

A single Bible costs only $3.00. Will you please help? Will you also please share this project with your friends, family, and social media network? Thank you!

Jesus said, "I needed clothes, and you gave me something to wear. I was sick, and you took care of me. I was in prison, and you visited me.” (Matthew 25:36)  God bless you for showing compassion to our persecuted brothers and sisters in China.

Living Healthy in a Stress-Filled World

Please pray for our upcoming Mission Trip to China (March 16)
I had a friend in ministry who was in his mid-fifties when his life came to an abrupt end, leaving his precious young family without a husband and father. My friend lived a God-honoring life but the primary reason for his early demise was his lack of proper nutrition and exercise. How we chose to care for our body will affect our overall quality and longevity of life.
Not too long ago, another friend approached me and asked, "Brother Sandy, I serve God with all of my heart, but my family is constantly having health issues. Doesn't God care?" It was a sincere and sobering question. Today I want to share with you what I shared with him.
Each of us is made up of three parts spiritual, emotional, and physical. All three of these areas are interconnected.  For example, if we do not get enough sleep each day, it will affect our productivity the next day. If we live on a fast food diet all the time, it will begin to affect our mood. And if we do not get regular exercise, we will become lethargic and not have sufficient energy.
As a minister, I pray for sick people all the time, many of whom are spiritual giants. They read the Bible, pray, go to church, and live a God-pleasing life. They stand in a prayer line thinking there must be a spiritual reason as to why they are sick. So they think a prayer alone will fix their health issues. While I am glad to pray for people anytime and anywhere, and I trust in God's power to heal, I also know some health issues are not spiritual problems. They are a result of a lifestyle adjustment they need to make. God has the power to heal but He also expects us to do our part to properly maintain our physical health.
Let me challenge you to consider four areas that might enhance your physical health.
1. Food and drink. Do not misunderstand, I believe you can eat and drink almost anything as long as you maintain a healthy balance. But what we eat and drink will greatly determine how we feel. Some healthy choices include eating fresh, unprocessed food. Lentils, beans, and lean meats are all good proteins that provide energy, while rice, bread, potatoes, and pasta can make you feel sluggish. Dark vegetables are rich in vitamins. Candy, sweets, and desserts may taste good in the moment, but fresh fruit and nuts are better alternatives.  Drinking sugar-laden soda, iced tea, or excessive amounts of alcohol can amplify existing health issues; drinking water is a better way to go. Some of the health habits my family engages in are to eat food from small plates, drink water from large glasses, and drink coffee or tea from small cups. Desserts and junk food are occasional treats, but we do not store them at home.
2. Exercise. We live in a sedentary society. Many of us are glued to a computer screen or an office desk for eight to ten hours a day. When we return home from work, we find ourselves sitting on the couch flipping through channels on TV. Modern conveniences have reduced our physical activity causing a great challenge for people to stay fit. Unless your job routinely involves manual labor, you may need to schedule exercise in your daily routine. Walking, jogging, running, swimming, or weightlifting are great ways to stay physically fit. Researchers have found that when we sweat due to exercise or physical work, our body releases endorphins that send "happy hormones" to rejuvenate us.
3. Sleep and rest. Even God rested after His sixth day of creation! Your body is the only "machine" you'll ever have. Just like an expensive car, you cannot keep it running without proper rest. Likewise, God in his infinite wisdom created night and day. Going to sleep is like rebooting a computer; it gets rid of static and recharges your body. Scientists have found that every hour of sleep you get before 2:00 a.m. counts as twice as much rest! Isn't it amazing that modern society is catching up with the old saying, "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a person healthy..." Health experts are now saying our body functions at an optimum level when we get a full eight hours of sleep each night.
4. Smile and laugh. Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana, has compiled some fascinating facts. Did you know only thirteen muscles are used to smile, but forty-seven muscles are required to frown? Clearly, smiling is more beneficial than frowning. Researchers also discovered that one good belly laugh burns off three and a half calories.  Laughter lowers the levels of cortisol in the body. Cortisol is the effect of stress and it suppresses your immune system. Lowering cortisol levels will enhance the work of your immune system and may prevent disease. Laughter releases endorphins (a “feel good” hormone) into your body with the same exhilarating effect as doing strenuous exercise. Let's learn to laugh and put our health in high gear!

Friend, no matter where you are in your health, it will do us all good to improve our physical health habits. If we take time to educate ourselves, eat right, exercise, get enough rest, and learn to laugh, God will do His part. The Bible says, "Honor God with your body.” (I Corinthians 6:20)  How do we do that? By taking care of our body. After all, if you have a million dollars but are poor in physical health, what good will that be? Think about it! Your body is not only where you live, but it is also where God lives. Let us treat and respect our health as a gift from God.

God's Plan for Your Family

A family is the perfect script for a great movie. There is a “good guy” (God) and a “bad guy” (the Devil) fighting for the prized possession – you, the family. Unfortunately, this battle is not fought on the silver screen but in real life. This is why God commanded Nehemiah to “fight for your families.” (Nehemiah 4:14)
When God instituted family, He provided a roadmap.  He gave specific roles to each member of the family to set them up to be victorious. If we are to be successful in our family life, we must follow God’s plan.  It is God’s design for the man to be the leader of his home. Eve was created to be a “help meet” (Genesis 2:18) because God knew man would need a lot of help! Today, man’s value and role have been emasculated by modern society and women are left with a burden on their shoulders they were never intended to bear.
So what makes a successful family? I believe a successful family begins with a successful marriage. And a successful marriage is based on two quality decisions: commitment to God and commitment to each other. Without this commitment and the determination to reinforce it daily, you will be tempted to give up.
Let’s look at the husband’s role. The word husband comes from a Latin word meaning “house-band.” Like a rubber band, the husband’s job is to keep the family bound together. Do not take the easy way out and just be provider – spend time with your family as well. Be faithful to your wife. It is not enough to provide for the family financially; you also need to provide for them emotionally. In the complex world we live today, they need your listening ears, approval, and understanding. As the leader of the family, the husband needs to lead, guide, provide, protect, and serve his family. When a husband serves in this way, the wife will not have any trouble submitting to him. When I counsel couples, many wives tell me they dream for a godly husband they can follow. Husbands, step up to the plate and be the spiritual leader of your home. The husband’s job is to receive and apply the word of God in his family, in the same way Christ loved and served His family. A leader is not a dictator but a humble servant who serves his family.
It is every woman’s desire to be loved, cherished, and even pampered. They need listening ears without being interrupted when they share their feelings. Women need to feel beautiful and validated.  Instead of complaining, develop a habit of complementing. Like the great king Solomon advised, daily build up your wife. Allow them to blossom and develop confidence. Do not give half-hearted approval. They need full endorsement; complements, not criticism. When you treat your wife like a queen, she will treat you like a king.
The wife’s primary role is to support her husband and children without losing her own identity. Modern culture, media, and movies have taught us that being a wife or a mother at home is an inferior vocation. But nothing is more rewarding than to follow God’s design for the family. Nothing is more powerful than raising and influencing the next generation. What you deposit in them is far more important than what you  leave for them.
Wives, your husband needs you. Nothing makes a man feel taller than when his wife standing by his side. Your husband’s number one need is to be admired. This is even more important than their need for intimacy. Your husband needs your respect and appreciation. Instead of nagging, start bragging, especially in public. Build him up with your words of encouragement. Tell him what a great man he is. Give him something to live up to!
Children obviously make up the fun part of the family. One thing I have learned as a father is kids spell love, “T-I-M-E.” Parents, “waste” time with your children. Play with your children. Train them in the ways of the Lord. If you don’t spend time with them, someone else will! Discipline them from a young age. Teach them responsibility, respect, and honor. Speak affirmative words over them. Catch them doing something right. Remember, they will learn more from your walk than from your talk. Ouch!
A family is the highest representation of God on earth. If you are blessed with a family, cherish it. Do not take your family for granted. Husbands, love your wife so your prayers will not be hindered. (1 Peter 3:7) Wives, admire your husband and speak well of him. Children, enjoy the family God has given you – it is the only one you will have. A Spanish proverb says, “An ounce of blood is worth more than a pound of friendship.” God has shed His blood to save His family; now it's your turn to save yours! He is watching over you with everything you need. Live, Love, Learn… at the end of your days, your family is all you will have left.

How to Create Your Miracle

If you’re like me, you have a hundred things on your mind to accomplish in life – someday!  We all know people who are about to start a business, they’re going to open a savings account, planning to spend more time with their family.  But in most cases, these dreams get pushed aside for a more opportune time – someday!
The secret to success is to tackle a big goal in “bite size pieces.”  In other words, take a baby step.  Then take the next step, followed by another. God said,  Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land. Exodus 23:30. “Little by little” is how God told Israelites to capture a giant territory.  When we focus on our daily, weekly and short-term goal, in the process of time, we’ll be able to achieve the big goal.
For example, if you want to save a ton of money, start putting away $10 today.  If you’re planning to lose 50 lbs. in weight, start walking the neighborhood with a goal of loosing just one pound a month.  If you want to overcome a bad habit, start by reducing one cigarette a day. We all want an instant miracle. But until that happens, baby steps is what's going to get us there! When people ask me, "How I can support your ministry?" I tell them, "Don’t wait until you have $500 extra cash in hand, start by sending $30 a month."
Friend, whatever you want to achieve in life, start by taking a baby step today.  Do not wait for better conditions.  In most cases, the situation will not be much better next week or a month from now. But if you take the baby step today, followed by another and then another, you’ll be that much closer to achieving your big goal.  By next year, you’ll be amazed what miracle you’ve created for yourself.
There's a story in the Bible (2 Kings 7) where four lepers were sitting at the entrance of the city gates. Inside the city there was a famine and outside they're threatened by their enemies. The lepers didn't know what to do. But they had enough sense to realize that if they sat there, they're going to die.
Finally, after a long debate, they decided to walk toward the enemy camp and take their chances. They didn't make a big announcement or a New Year's resolution. They simply decided to get up and take a step toward their goal to survive. Amazingly, as they took their first, second and third steps, God caused their enemies to hear thunderous footsteps of a great army marching toward them. The enemies scattered and the lepers exploited the spoil and saved a whole city. Notice, God caused the enemies to hear the footsteps of a great army only after the lepers took a step in faith toward their goal.
Is your miracle waiting for you to take your first step toward your goal?
Let me share sevens simple steps you can take to achieve your miracle:
1. Set goals.  Set long term goals then divide it in to daily goals.
2. Make your goals public. Create accountability. Talk about it – a lot.
3. Be consistent to achieve your daily small goals. Success breeds success.
4. Evaluate your goal weekly. What’s working; what’s not? Take appropriate measure to make adjustments.
5. Reward yourself with something small (not ice-cream if you’re planning to lose weight) when you have a small victory.
6. Silence the voice of condemnation and start over when you fail.
7. Accept the fact that it will take some time.
Friend, God is with you. He is for you. If you take a baby step toward your goal, He will reward you openly. Others will look at you and call it a miracle. Remember, a journey of a thousand mile begins with a single step.

Starbucks Coffee or World Missions

It is the perfect time of year to evaluate our lives in the light of eternity. In the midst of New Year's resolutions and such, it is good to look at our spiritual goals. Through your partnership last year, we were able to reach over 80,000 people. This year, our goal is to double our efforts.
The crying, sighing and dying humanity on the mission field is the heartbeat of Jesus. His last command to us was, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation" (Mark 16:15). Therefore, as individuals and as the Church, we must put missions on the forefront of our agenda. We must embrace world missions as our top priority.
Dauth is one of our Native Missionaries working high in the Himalayas where most people have never heard the name of Jesus. Last week over 14,000 people gathered to hear him sing and share about the Lord. There is a tremendous hunger in the hearts of people in idol worshiping nations in Asia. Your partnership is helping Gospel workers like Dauth to proclaim the Gospel to the multitudes.
This year, will you prayerfully consider partnering with a national worker? In India, China, Burma, they are beaten daily and faced with imprisonment and even death. But they persevere to win souls for Christ.
Twenty-five workers need immediate sponsorship. It costs only $120-$250 per month to keep an evangelist on the job. A partial sponsorship is available for only $1 a day - a fraction of the cost of a Starbucks coffee! In return, imagine the souls that will be credited to your heavenly account! That is true wealth which will not corrupt.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your friendship, prayers and support. We are praying daily for you and your family. The Lord sees your sacrifice and He will openly reward you.

Living Your Dream in 2012

As a new year rolls around, it is easy not to think about growing, stretching and multiplying. After all, recession continues, jobs are hard to find and we struggle to maintain good health. It does not take much to become complacent and stuck in a rut. But God is progressive. He wants us to stretch out and put an expansion plan in place so He can have something to bless.
What I sense in my spirit is 2012 will be an amazing year! God will accelerate things for you this year and what did not happen last year was preparation for this year. Nothing was wasted or lost. If you keep a right attitude, and take the right actions, God has amazing things prepared for you. Shake off the disappointments and listen to what God says, “Things are going to happen so fast your head will swim, one thing fast on the heels of the other. You won't be able to keep up. Everything will be happening at once—and everywhere you look, blessings! Blessings like wine pouring off the mountains and hills. I'll make everything right again for my people.” (Amos 9:13-14 Message).
You say, "Sandy, you are just getting my hopes up. This sounds too good to be true.” Yes, I am getting your hopes up. But this will only work for those who believe His Word! Faith is to see before you believe. And if you believe, you will see.
Colin Willard and a group of ten other employees from a technology company in Ottawa, Canada were laid off just before Christmas. Willard had just returned to work after a six-month absence due to back problems. Willard described his discovery of $7 million in the lottery, a day after he was laid off, “I started to shake, vibrate in my seat, and then I had to get out and tell some of the people that were in [on the winning ticket], and no one believed me!"
I do not know the details of the lives of these men nor am I endorsing the lottery. But if I was a winner, I would be ecstatic knowing God always comes through. You may not see now how your miracle will come to pass, but rest assured God will not let you down. King David said, “Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.” (Psalm 37:25, NLT) If you trust and obey Him, you can face this year confident He will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory.
Sam Schmid, a twenty-one year old student from Arizona, was involved in a horrible car crash last October leaving him on emergency life support. Due to the complexity of his life-threatening injuries, Schmid had to undergo multiple surgeries. After the doctors came out of surgery, his brain showed no response and they considered taking him off life support. A week later Schmid shocked doctors when he responded by holding up two fingers. A few months later, he began talking and walking again. Schmid says, "I see myself leaving the house, going to school, work, and doing basic things like that again."
This year, God wants to heal your body. It does not matter how long you have been sick; like the crippled man by the pool of Bethesda, God wants to restore your health. Our God is Jehovah Rapha, the Lord our Healer. He not only heals our sick bodies, but He will heal marriages, broken relationships, failing businesses or a distant relationship with God.
Friend, raise the level of your expectancy! Put your hope in God. He will honor your faith. You will go from dreaming the dream to living your dream.
Let me proclaim a blessing over your life! In 2012, you will go from dreaming the dream to living your dream. You have prayed, labored, and stood faithful. You have planted and watered the seeds. You have grown and matured in character. You have believed but now you will see. You will go from imagining to experiencing the dreams and desires God put on the inside of you. The wind that was blowing against you will start to blow in your direction. It is the breath of God’s favor, forgiveness and mercy overtaking you. He has put right people in your path who will celebrate and open doors for you. Just when you think this is too good to be true, God will astonish you with another surprise! I proclaim 2012 will be an exceptional year!!!
