A lot of Christians
miss out in the abundant life because they never take the time to find out what
God has promised for them in the Bible. We base our theology on what we learnt
at Sunday school or what the preacher says. But the Bible is God’s will left
for us to claim all sorts of inheritance.
I heard a story of
a man who was taking a voyage across the ocean. He had pulled together all his resources
to buy a ticket for this trip. During his whole journey he’d sit outside the
fancy glass window and watch the people inside enjoying great meals, laughing
and having fun. How he wished he could afford the luxury people were enjoying! Disheartened,
every meal time he’d sit on the bench outside and eat his cheese and crackers
that he’d brought with him. One day just before the ship was about to dock an
employee noticed the traveler and asked, “Sir,
why don’t you go inside and enjoy our gourmet cuisine prepared just for you?” The
traveler replied with an embarrassing voice, “That’s ok. I can’t afford the expensive dining.” Stunned at his
replied the worker said, “But sir! Our
exquisite food is included in your ticket!”
I meet many
Christians around the world who are missing out on the “meal” Christ paid for us on the cross. Our benefits include salvation, health, peace, joy, favor, protection,
prosperity, influence and much more! The problem is we don’t read the “will” to find out what our Big Brother
has left us. When we search the
scriptures we’ll find that God has promised us abundant, overflowing life.
He has invited us to sit at His banqueting table and enjoy the provision He
made for us. Let’s get rid of our cheese and crackers and step into His
banqueting table.
This is what our
father in faith Abraham did. The Bible indicates that Abraham came from an
idol-worshipping family. But he left home in obedience to God’s instruction. He
didn’t know what his future held but Abraham trusted God with it. One
characteristic’s of Abraham’s life was that He was obedient to God. When God
was testing Him and asked him to offer his only son Isaac on to the altar he
didn’t flinch. Abraham was obedient unto sacrificing his own son. Is there any
wonder that God blessed him and made him to be the father of many nations? I believe we’re the modern day Abraham that
God wants to bless as we obey Christ with our lives.
Among the blessings of Abraham was
wealth and riches. God blessed
Abraham’s obedience so much that he was known as one of the richest men in the
region! Abraham had influence. The Scripture
describes Abraham dealing with kings. Our
father in faith had some faults. He lied about his wife being his sister.
He was a coward when it came to defend his own wife. But in spite of his
weaknesses, he had a heart after God. He honored God to the best of his
ability. His relationship with God was amicable. He believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
God was so pleased with Abraham that He cut a covenant with him. Abraham lived a good old age and full of
years. If we live obedient to God’s Word, make personal sacrifices and live
a God-honoring life, we too will be blessed.
The Bible talks
about the blessings of Abraham coming upon us through the Cross. When Jesus died for us He cut a better
covenant with us who keep His commands. Through Christ, we have salvation,
healing, peace, joy, prosperity and the whole truck load of blessings. The
devil doesn’t want you to find out that we have an inheritance through our Lord
Jesus Christ. He has left us His “will” so
that we don’t have to live through life on cheese and crackers. There’s healing
waiting for you. Peace, joy and restoration are in store for you. Prosperity
and promotions are yours to possess. Whatever you need, God has made a
provision for you. Christ became curse
for us so that the blessings of Abraham can come upon us. Enjoy the
blessing and share it with others whom God brings in your path.
“[Christ paid the price] so that the blessing promised to
Abraham would come to all the people of the world through Jesus Christ and we
would receive the promised Spirit through faith” (Galatians 3:14 God’s Word).
