Walking in the Favor of God

You can do a lot of things to draw God’s attention but when God’s favor is on your life goodness, mercy, and good breaks will come find you. When we live favor-minded, we will enjoy more of God’s blessings in our lives.

The definition of favor is an attitude of approval or liking. It is an act of kindness beyond what is due or unusual. Another place states that it’s a preference for one person over another. At times, we struggle in life but God wants us to walk in favor all the time. When we live a favor-minded life, God-things happen to us.

The other day I took my oldest daughter Cassandra for shopping on her seventeenth birthday. I told her to pick out some clothes for her upcoming college classes. When we went to the register, a young man took care of us. When I saw the computer screen, the clothes that were already on sale had been marked down even more. I said, “Excuse me!” He just gave me a wry smile and continued scanning the items. Later I told my daughter what happened. The clerk had punched in additional discount and she was ecstatic! In the car we thanked God and recognized His favor.

Many people don’t realize it but all of God’s children are born with favor in their blood. It is our God-given inheritance. However, many people don’t know how to activate that favor in their lives. I’ve learned that the more I live favor-minded, the more I attract God’s favor. Favor is preferential treatment. Favor is not a lucky break; it is God’s gift to show us that He likes us even when we don’t deserve His blessings. When you activate favor in your life, you’ll begin to experience God’s supernatural benefits.

We all know the story of how Pharaoh persecuted the children of Israelites. God finally heard the cries of His suffering people as He does yours today. The Egyptians had been brutal towards them but through some strange compulsion they gave their jewelries to the Israelites. In the end, the Egyptians perished but the Israelites inherited all the wealth. God wants to shower you with favor beyond your wildest dreams.

Today, you may be working for a hard-to-please boss. Co-workers may be speaking against you. You may be discriminated against for your faith, age, the color of your skin, or your nationality. You may even be persecuted for sharing Christ with others or for keeping integrity at work. No matter how bad the situation may look, always remember that God has anointed you with favor. You’re chosen to receive God’s red-carpet treatment. When you walk around expecting God’s favor, it will find you. Here’s the key. When you find favor, whether big or small, give God the credit and you’ll draw more favor into your life.

While we can never earn God’s favor with our good deeds, it is pleasant to know that we serve a generous God who blesses us in spite of our failures and weaknesses. This is why it is so important for you to go about your business calling in God’s favor. See yourself receiving the better end of the deal. When you go ask for a job, promotion or a raise, go in with God’s favor. When the odds are against you, invite God’s favor.

A few weeks ago, I posted a piano recital by my daughter Sabrina on Facebook. It was meant to be just an encouragement for her on how well she’s practicing. Many of you commented on her performance and thank you for that. My friend Ms. Nancy also saw the post and asked if we wanted to keep her grand piano in our house for Sabrina to practice on as they’re going to be putting it away in storage for a year. I immediately said “yes.” Today that grand piano decorates the front entrance of our home and Sabrina just can’t get enough of it. What was that? It was the favor of God towards my daughter. (Thank you, Ms. Nancy!)

Today, don’t just depend on your own strength. Ask God for His favor. When you live favor-minded, it will come to you. This may surprise you but our God is the ultimate Santa Clause. He’s not performance based. He’s not keeping track of your wrongs but rights. He is the most loving and generous Father you could ever imagine! He wants to bless you so that you can be a blessing to others. Seek God, live favor-minded and enjoy the fullness of happiness God has for you.

“For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime!” (Psalm 30:5 NLT)

Let Freedom Ring

If you’re an American, 4^th of July is a great day of celebration. This day is remembered for severing ties with Great Britain after they imposed unreasonable conditions upon their citizens. God made man free therefore it is a basic human right.

While it is great to be free as a nation, what is more important is that we’re free as individuals. We may no longer succumb to the tyranny of an unjust government; many today are trapped in bondage much more sinister than political control.

Abraham Lincoln said, “Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.” What he was saying is that if we become free as an individual, we can be free as a nation.

Today, let’s look at five areas of life where God wants us to be free.

1. Freedom from wrong mindsets. Too many people are trapped into wrong thinking. A wrong mindset is anything contrary to the Bible. Self-limiting thoughts like: I’m nothing special, I’m not attractive, I’m not smart, I’m not gifted, I will never own my own house, I’ll never get married, I’ll never retire are contrary to God’s promises. Our wrong way of thinking is keeping us from experiencing God’s best as an individual, and collectively as a nation. When we disagree with God, we’re dwarfing our potential. A wrong mindset is more dangerous than a venomous snake because it makes us believe we’re doing the right thing while it leads us to destruction. Our freedom has to do with our mindset. What we believe is what we will become.

2. Freedom from want. A great deal of our lives is spent on gathering for ourselves. While we need to assume responsibility for our own provision, we shouldn’t stretch ourselves too thin. When we live beyond our means, we’re digging a hole for ourselves. We should not be greedy. On the other hand, God wants us to have a mentality of abundance. We limit ourselves by thinking that if God has to provide, it has to be through a job, business, stocks, and bonds. While this is a good place to start, why not believe in God for the supernatural? John Quincy Adams said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” God created the diamond and gold mines. Can we trust Him to meet our needs over and beyond and have plenty left over to help others? Instead of praying to pay off your own house, pray to pay off someone else’s and see what God does! In God, government or job we trust?

3. Freedom from pain. There are different kinds of pain. When we’re in pain, we think differently. Physical, mental, and emotional pain cause us to live a constrained life. God wants to heal our body, mind, spirit, and soul. One way we can be free from that is to forgive those who have done us wrong. When you forgive others, you set a prisoner free and that that prisoner is you. Often people asked Jesus if He wanted to heal. Jesus replied, “I will.” Jesus still wants to heal today! He will heal every place you hurt.

4. Freedom from bad habits. Habits come in different shapes, sizes, and forms. Let’s not judge people because their sin is different from ours. All of us have issues. We can all improve. Thomas Jefferson said, “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.” Here are simple steps to overcome a bad habit. Acknowledge > Make yourself accountable > Get help > Give it time.

5. Freedom from sin. God said all have sinned and fallen short of His glory. We’re professional sinners but we don’t have to live that way. John F Kennedy said, “Those who dare to fail miserably can achieve greatly.” You may feel that you’ve failed miserably but Christ paid the ultimate price our freedom. You’re no longer a weak, worm of the dust. You’re the righteousness of God. If you don’t like the way you’re born, today I urge you to be born again. If God can change the world inside of you, He can change the world through you.

Friend, let freedom ring loudest in your heart and let us remember that righteousness exalts a nation. A nation will prosper if we’re living right individually. Jesus didn’t come to change a political order He came to change the heart of men, women and children. Everything changes when the heart is powered by Jesus.

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36 NIV).

Attitude Determines Altitude

There are many things we cannot control in life. However, one of the most important things that we can control is our attitude. Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we respond to it.

Everyone wants to succeed in life but very few do. It is not an accident that some people soar while others struggle. Ability teaches us how to do a task. Motivation decides why we do it. Attitude determines how well we do our job.

One of the greatest lessons I learnt in life is to shake off disappointment quickly. None of us like rejection yet, it is an inevitable part of life. It is not our falling that makes us a failure but whether or not we get back up. Successful people are those who understand that failure is an event, not a person.

In the Bible, Elijah was a great prophet. Once he had to pray down rain from a draught. After prayer, he sent his apprentice to check if there was any sign of rain in the sky. Six times the servant returned and said, “There is nothing!” Elijah could have easily said, “It’s not working. I give up!” Instead, he simply told his helper, “Go again.” He kept a good attitude even when he didn’t get the desired results. On the seventh time the servant came back and said, “There’s a cloud in the size of a hand rising from the sky.” Elijah declared, “I hear a sound of abundance of rain.” Friend, when you learn to keep an excellent attitude, rain will pour down upon your life filled with drought.

Long time ago, a Chinese king had a boulder placed on a roadway. He then hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king’s wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it.

Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear but none of them did anything about getting the big stone out of the way. Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. On approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many others never understand; every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one’s condition.

While God is not the author of our problems, like the king in this story He always makes sure to reward us for our good attitude. The Bible promises to bless us double for our troubles.

Walt Whitman said, “Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you.” Murphy’s Law says, “If anything can go wrong, it will.” Today, I have another law for you to live by. “If anything can go right, it will go right for me!” Why? Because you honor God with your life!

Recently I came across a poster defining attitude. “The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects the wind to change. A Leader adjusts the sail.” Let me ask you a question. Who are you? My friend Terri says, “A bad attitude is like a flat tire. Unless you change it, you’re not going anywhere.”

Friend, we cannot control all that life throws at us but we can control our response to it. No matter what you’re facing, choose to find something good in it. Look at life’s boulders as your rewards. Like Elijah, if you’re not getting desired result, “go again!” God wants you to soar to your highest potential. Remember, your attitude determines your altitude in life. I love you and I believe in you!

“Because you got a double dose of trouble and more than your share of contempt, Your inheritance in the land will be doubled and your joy go on forever” (Isaiah 61:7 The Message).

How to Sell to Anyone

Whether you realize it or not, everyone is selling something. Of course, none of us like being sold to, but the fact of the matter is, we’re always either buying or selling from each other.

Robert Stevenson said, “Anyone who sells a product, services or an idea is a salesperson.” For example, a mother sells her values to a child. The rewards are emotional and not monetary. As a minister, I “sell” the idea of Christianity to people who have not yet experienced Christ as their Lord and Savior. As a professional, when a person sells a solution, it is called a win-win because both parties end up gaining. The bigger the problem you solve the more profit you make!

Sales people often make the mistake of pushing their product. They’re eager for a quick gain but it’s not very effective in the long run. Always remember that people don’t buy products and services; they buy the experience of you. This is why it is so important to focus on building relationships and not so much on hard sales.

Be a better listener. You’ve heard the phrase, “If you’re telling, you’re not selling.” If you’re always dominating the conversation, you’re losing. It is far superior to learn the art of asking open-ended questions. I spent a lot of money and hundreds of hours watching interviews by Larry King on multiple DVDs because he could talk to anybody — presidents, film stars, celebrities, drunks, and crazy politicians! More accurately, he puts everyone at ease and they’re willing to share with him. Today, people compliment me as being a good listener. Why? It is because I take genuine interest in the person I’m in front of. This is what Jesus did. He took time to talk to ONE Samaritan woman by the well and the whole city came to know Him! Ask about the person, their family, values, and their lifestyle. The more they talk, the better educated you’ll be to provide a solution to their need. My banker friend Gale Wagner always says, “We’re interested in YOU and not just your money.” What a great way to add value to people!

Believe in yourself and your product. As a doctor, if you’re not going to give that medicine to your child, then it’s unethical to prescribe it to others. If you’re going to sell anything, you must believe in it. Recently, I was talking to a friend who needed to sell certain services to his constituency. He had been working hard but something was missing. I told him to share his passion with the people he was contacting and ask, with boldness, if they wanted to provide a solution to his cause. Within three days he had raised thousands of dollars for his mission. What was the difference? He added conviction to his cause. People see you as you see yourself. If they don’t see your faith, enthusiasm, and desire to help others, people won’t buy from you.

Don’t focus on the price, focus on value. You have no competition because there’s no one like you! Certainly, consumers want to buy the best and pay the least. But any sensible person knows that you get what you pay for. You have to find creative ways to add value to your customers. I know business owners who have full-time employees to answer the phone. Why is that? It is because human nature is to feel important. Nobody likes to talk to a machine. If you’re providing value, your customers will pay for your product.

Always do what is right for the customer. Once, my suitcase was lost during international travel. It was not a pleasant experience because the airline didn’t even know where my luggage was. Finally, the airline sent me a settlement check compensating me for my lost luggage. Only a couple of days after that, I got a phone call from a different airline in Mexico City (it was not my destination) saying they had found my lost suitcase. A few things were missing but I got my luggage back. Since I got most of my belongings back, I called the airline and asked them where I could send a check because they’d now overpaid for my lost items. They said, “Mr. Anderson, you can keep the whole check. We’re sorry for your inconvenience. We hope you will travel with us again.” Yes, I will. Why? It is because they did me right as a customer.

Friend, this week go out and believe that you can sell. Internally, you must see yourself closing a sale long before you talk to a customer. Talk less, listen more. People don’t care how much you know unless they know how much you care. Believe in yourself, believe in your product,and most of all, believe in the favor of God. He wants to bless you so that you can be a blessing to the world. I’m praying for you!

"The LORD your God will then make you successful in everything you do. He will give you many children and numerous livestock, and he will cause your fields to produce abundant harvests, for the LORD will again delight in being good to you as he was to your ancestors” (Deuteronomy 30:9 NLT).

Don’t Curse the Wind

When things are not going our way, we tend to think God has forgotten us. Our lives are out of control, therefore, God must be mad at us. This may be how we feel but we serve a God who is intimately involved in every affair of our lives.

At the turn of the century, cod fish were in high demand on the east coast. News of this tasty fish spread across the country, all the way to the west coast. However, there was a problem. How could they get the fish across the country and still keep it fresh? They tried to freeze the fish and send it by rail, the fastest means at the time. When it was prepared, it turned out to be very mushy and lacking in flavor. Then someone decided to ship the fish live — turning railroad cars into huge saltwater aquariums. When the cod fish arrived, they were still alive but when prepared, they were still mushy and tasteless. After studying the cod fish someone discovered that their natural enemy was the catfish. This time when the cod fish were put in the tanks, they placed a few catfish in with them. Those catfish chased the cod fish across the country all the way to the west coast. This time when they were prepared, they were flaky and had the same flavor as they did when they were caught fresh and prepared on the east coast. You see, the catfish kept the cod from becoming stale. The catfish kept them fresh.

This may sound like a bad news to you but let me assure you, God will never allow more “catfish” into your life than you can handle. The sickness, financial difficulty, divorce, pain, and problems are there, not to destroy you, but to propel you into your ultimate victory. Shift happens! But nothing happens to you, everything happens for you.

I travel quite a bit. At times, the pilot would announce that our flight would take longer because the tail-wind was against us. It’s disheartening to think we have to sit on the long stretch of a flight for an extra hour or two. However, there are times when the pilot announces that the journey will be shortened because the tail-wind is in our favor.

We don’t want to wait. We like for everything to be instant. Fortunately, God is not Burger King. You can’t have it your way and eat it too! The same God who is in control of our lives in the good times is in control of our lives in our “bad” times. He is orchestrating our lives. He promised never to leave us nor forsake us. He would never allow the difficult things into our lives unless He could use them to deliver us. God is always looking at our best interest. He will never let us end in a minus; with God, we’re always going to be plus. What looks like a setback now is actually a setup. The same wind that is blowing against you will propel you to a place of greater blessing and influence.

Have you ever been lost while driving? When we find ourselves confused, what do we do? We look for our GPS, don’t we? When we type the right destination into that little device, it automatically calculates another route to get us there in approximately the same time, if not sooner. Even when we’ve made a mistake, the GPS will correct our course and take us to the right destination. Friend, God has already pre-programmed you for health, success, peace, and prosperity. His Word is like the GPS. The Bible is the Guide Book for life! I encourage you to read the life-manual for directions in your life. It will give you strength and purpose. His Word will lead and guide you and act as an umpire. Even when we make a bad choice or fall victim to others, He will still get us to our original destination on time. He is never out of sight from our lives. He controls the wind and the “catfish” in our lives!

Remember, the kite only rises against the wind. Only dead fish float downstream. A rainbow is visible only after the rain. My challenge to you today is not to curse the wind. Every negative situation in your life is not from the devil. The enemy may have meant it for harm but God is going to make sure the tail-wind is in your favor and you get to your desired destination safely and on time. The “catfish” are there only to will keep you fresh. You don’t have to figure everything out. The Master Designer of your life has it all figured out. He will take your trials and cause you to triumph. Your trial will become your testimony. Your tears will turn into your treasure. Your pain will produce a purpose. Enjoy the journey my friend! God is not only with you, He is for you. I love you and I’m praying for you.

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it” (I Corinthians 10:13 ESV).

Magnify the Good

We all go through difficulties in life. We can either chose to magnify the good or the bad. When we dwell on the good, we glorify God. When we’re being negative, we’re diminishing His power working in us.

If you’re fighting a sickness in your body, it’s ok to acknowledge your illness or express how you’re feeling. You can be real about the pain in your body. You need to get well but don’t just say that you’re sick. Go on to declare that you’re healed by the stripes of Jesus! When you magnify God’s ability, you’ll experience the supernatural power of healing.

I’m sure you’ve experimented with a magnifying glass. When we hold it up against something, it doesn’t change its size, instead it changes our perception. In the same way, when we magnify God, we don’t make Him bigger than He is. We make Him look bigger in our own eyes. We can chose to magnify the goodness of God or what the enemy is doing. Every father wants to bless his bragging child. Our heavenly Father is the same way. We cannot make Him bigger than He already is but when we talk about His bigness, mercy, and kindness, we’ll draw in the good happening to us. You say, “Isn’t that flattery?” Not, if you do it sincerely. Love God and be grateful for what He’s done already.

Today, if you’re going through a slump in your business or you are in lack, you need to focus on God’s goodness to provide. Just the fact that you’re still here is a testimony of His mercy. God has promised to never leave you. He has promised to supply all your needs. God’s sending you clients that you don’t know about. Good breaks, inheritance, and promotions have been released in your immediate future. Don’t get sucked into the temporary. Everything you see now is subject to change. Say, “I’m blessed and highly favored.” When you speak faith, you release God’s goodness.

One of the greatest sources of frustration is our family. The devil tries so hard to put family members against each other. Don’t let that be you. Your family is the only people God has hand-picked for you. Find ways to unite. Don’t be so touchy and easily offended. Overlook a few faults. Never speak negative or angry words that hurt like a burn long after they’re said. Of course they have flaws but that’s why you’re there. Show them that you love them—unconditionally. Men, be willing and available to listen (without interruption) to your own wife and children without making them feel like it’s a burden. Wives, admire your own husband as you do with other men. When we create an environment of love, peace, acceptance, and honor then we’re building a good family. Eventually, they’ll reciprocate.

There are times in your life when you can see the good in others but you just can’t find anything good in you to celebrate. This is a very dangerous way to live. If you want to be happy, you need to take time to find the good in, and for, yourself. It’s okay to love, admire, and inspire others but you must also learn to celebrate the genius in you. God made you in His own image. You belong to the Royal class. You may have a few flaws but don’t let them deter you from celebrating you! One of the best ways you can do that is to learn to encourage yourself. The scriptures say, “David encouraged himself in the Lord.”  You must find a way to become your own cheerleader. You’re important. You matter. You cannot give what you do not have. It’s never about you but it must start with you having a healthy self-image of who you are in Christ.

Friend, no matter what you’re facing, magnify what God is doing. Focus on what you have and not what you lack. Develop a healthy self-image. Love others the way you love yourself. Give and you shall receive. You have more going for you than against you. Say what you want and you’ll see what you say. Magnify the good. Magnify God!

“Come, let us tell of the LORD's greatness; let us exalt his name together” (Psalm 34:3 NLT).

Shake it Off

We all go through disappointment, doubt, and discouragement. It is not wrong to feel defeated at times. However, if we don’t learn to shake off our disappointments quickly, then we’ll lose valuable time regretting things beyond our control.

Most of our disappointments are due to our lack of better judgement. I know people who made a mistake thirty years ago but they’re still sitting on the sideline of life lamenting it. They’ve allowed themselves to be the prisoners of their past. Others are victims of their fellowmen. Unjust things were said or done to them. It was unfair. However, they’ve allowed unforgiveness and bitterness to take root in them. Now they’re breathing but not living. No matter how the disappointment or hurt got into you, you’ve got to let it go. Unless we learn to quickly shake off the negative words, experiences, and deeds done against us, we will not live a fulfilled life.

The other day I was putting gas in my car. I saw a young attendant, Rebecca, cleaning up the trash can right by my car. I asked her if she was going to college. She said, “Yes.” I was very impressed and told her that she was going to go places in her life. She smiled and moved on to the next trash can. I was still waiting to fill up my tank when the Holy Spirit gently nudged me in reminder that I hadn’t done anything practical to show her God’s love. When I finished filling up my gas tank, I drove around looking for her and called her to my window. When she came over, I gave her one of my inspirational CDs and some money to buy her lunch. I reminded her again that God loved her and He will reward her hard work. Rebecca was very happy and grateful.

I was feeling good about reaching out to Rebecca. I wasn’t paying attention to where I was driving. Accidentally, I was exiting the gas station from the entry point. Immediately I realized my mistake. The first car came by while I was waiting for the traffic to clear. I had my hands up in apology. He didn’t seem to mind and went around my car at the wrong exit. I still had my hands up in apology when the second car came around. This man wasn’t as forgiving as the first one. He was shaking his fingers and yelling at me. Even though the windows were closed, I could feel the rage in this man! I was so taken aback. Of course, I was in the wrong exit. It was a mistake but I felt like rolling down my windows and giving this stranger a piece of my mind. Thank God the Holy Spirit prevailed. I just smiled and gestured apologies and drove away. This kept bothering me for almost an hour. Every time, I had to shake off the negative and remind myself how God’s love was able to touch Rebecca!

When discouragement and hurtful thoughts come to your mind, I suggest you do the same. Shake off the guilt, shame and criticisms. Forgive the people who have done you wrong. Replace your negative feelings with positive ones. Nothing is worth mulling over past mistakes, negative thoughts, comments or actions of others. It will only drag you down. Shake it off and step it up!

A couple of months ago, I was driving down the road by my house. I had a lot on my mind before a missions trip. I was coming to stop at a traffic light and I saw some birds on the road. This is common and obviously, I didn’t pay much attention to it as they always fly away. Well, this time they didn’t. I ran over three of them and they were just babies. I felt so horrible. I reversed my car to see if I could rescue them but it was too late. The mama bird was sitting by the road watching! I felt so guilty and condemned myself. It took me days to get over it. Finally, I had to do what I’m telling you today. I had to shake it off and move on. Friend, there will be times in your life when you have to forgive yourself. If we don’t have a healthy perspective, we’ll live a life of regret and lamentation.

Today, may I encourage you to shake it off and move on? We cannot control others or justify their actions, but we can choose to forgive them and move on. Let us not be so hard on ourselves. When we’ve done something wrong, the best thing we can do is to ask for forgiveness and press forward. God is not a scorekeeper for our faults. You Have Abundant Supply

Often the enemy wants to remind us of what we don’t have, especially in our finances. Today, I want to remind you that in Christ, you have more than enough. But first, you have to say it and then you’ll see it. You cannot have a poor mouth and have a rich life. Wake up every day and say, “I’m blessed and highly favored.” This is how faith works!

God has hidden treasures that you do not know of. You have been responsible to pay your bills. You’ve been generous. You’ve helped others. You have planted your seeds in famine. He’s putting you in other people’s heart right now. Sales are going to go through and commission checks are coming to you. Expect a raise at your work. Strangers will want to be good to you and your children. You will inherit a fortune.

Did you know Jesus recognized and blessed people who served Him and supported His ministry? That’s you! “Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and villages, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities – Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Heord’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance” (Luke 8:1-3 NKJV).

These people helped God’s work on earth. You’ve done the same for your fellowmen, Build International Ministries, your church, friends and family. Today, I want to remind you that you’re the head and not the tail. You’re above lack and mediocrity. God has plenty in store to help you pay your bills and plenty leftover to impact the nations. Shake off the dust of condemnation and critical voices within. God looks at you with favor and approves of you. He remembers your sacrifices and the seeds you’ve planted in tears. Today, His face is turned toward you and His Hands are outstretched toward you. Will you receive His provision? He’s still Jehovah Jireh – the Lord our Provider. You don’t have to know how but rest assured He knows what you need and how to get it to you. Now give Him a shout of praise like you believe in His promises. God will not fail you my friend. Remember, you’re too blessed to be stressed. I’m praying for you.

“Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication; And let them say continually, "The LORD be magnified, Who delights in the prosperity of His servant" (Psalm 35:27 NAS).

Be Ambitious for God

Since the day we were born, most of us are taught to be happy and pursue happiness. It is not wrong to be ambitious. However, if that is the focal point of our existence, then we’re missing the boat. The greatest happiness you’ll ever find is experiencing God on a continual basis.

Being ambitious for God is not about performance. It is having a desire to please God in everything we do and make decisions affect Him. God has given us the freedom to choose. We have entered into a relationship where everything is based on love and trust. When we wake up every morning and ask God for His direction, we’re being ambitious for God. When we leave our homes looking for people to help, we’re being ambitious for our Master. When we’re representing Him with honesty and integrity in the marketplace, we’re standing out for our God. If we’re not intentional about these things, we will have little impact for our Lord and Savior.

William Carey, the great missionary to India, said, “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things from God.” When we set spiritual goals, we’ll have an opportunity to achieve them. If we involve God in our personal lives, homes and at work, we’ll change our world for the betterment of God’s Kingdom.

In our personal lives, we can start with a commitment to connect with God daily. A recent survey in America showed the average household has 4.4 Bibles. Fifty-seven percent of those people only read their Bible four times a year or less. Young people are moving away from the Bible. A majority (57%) of those ages 18-28 read their Bibles less than three times a year. Only twenty-six percent of Americans say they read their Bible on a regular basis (four or more times a week). We all agree that our country is on a moral decline, but what are we going to do about it? I challenge you to read the Bible every day. Start with only a chapter or even a verse. Keep the Bible in your favorite couch. Have a set time (morning is the best) to read the Wisdom Book. When you give God’s Word priority over your life, you’re honoring God, and He will honor you back in everything you do. In communist China, underground Christians share one Bible between dozens of believers. Leaders get arrested and thrown into prison for owning a Bible or conducting a house church. Is there any wonder, China is on course to become ‘world’s most Christian nation’ within 15 years?

The best Christian homes take their families to church. This is a great start but don’t just be a pew-warmer. Yes, we must gather together in the house of God. But we will have little or no impact if we do not honor God in our own homes. J. Edgar Hoover said, “If discipline were practiced in every home, juvenile delinquency would be reduced by 95%.” What children get, they give to society. When kids watch their parents living in harmony, honoring each other, and living a God-fearing life, they will pick up on it. They too will model their lives to be ambitious for God. The greatest investment we can make on our kids is not to leave a great inheritance, or give them a great education in their career, but to help them encounter God and pursue His plans for their lives. The world doesn’t need more professionals; we need more disciples of Christ.

At work, we can be ambitious for our God as well. In certain religions, they take time out in the middle of their work hours to worship God. Why are we afraid to bring our faith to work? Allow me let you in on a secret. If you’re the best producer and hardest worker at your job, management doesn’t care what religion you practice. I’m not telling you to be obnoxious, but to gently, quietly, and deliberately live your faith at work. If you do not compromise your character or your faith, you’ll be working for God at your job and make the devil pay for it!

Friend, set some impossible goals for the extension of His Kingdom. Don’t just settle for giving 10% of your income to God. How about joining a neighborhood evangelism team? Serve at a local food bank. Visit the elderly, homeless and the prisons. Go on a missions team with Build International. The possibilities are endless. If you have a desire to attempt great things for God, He will make is possible for you to experience great things for Him.

“Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us” (1 Peter 2:12 NIV).

Have a Burning Desire

A burning desire is the starting point of any accomplishment. It may sound unreasonable but most people do not have a strong desire for anything. Those who know what they want and go after it usually get what they want.

Human nature is to want. However, if our “want to” is not bigger than our circumstances then we’ll live a limited life. How big is your want to? Just like a small fire cannot give much heat, a weak desire cannot produce great results. Throughout history, those who had a strong desire changed the world. You too can change your world with a burning desire to get anything you want.

Once, a young man asked Socrates the secret to success. Socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning. They met. Socrates asked the young man to walk with him toward the river. When the water got up to their necks, Socrates took the young man by surprise and dunked him under the water. They boy struggled to get out but Socrates was stronger and held him down. When the boy started to drown, Socrates raised the boy’s head out of the water. The first thing the young man did was to gasp for air. Socrates asked, “What did you want the most when you were under water?” The boy replied, “Air.” Socrates said, “That is the secret to success. When you want something as intensely as you wanted air underwater then you will have it.” This illustration may seem too drastic but friends, there’s no shortcut to success. An acorn has to decide if it wants to become a giant oak tree over a period of struggle and persistence to survive or lunch for the squirrel.

Napoleon Hill said, “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe the mind can achieve.” Many Christians do not know what the Bible has promised them because they don’t make time to read “the will.” When we take time to study God’s Word, we can learn what God has promised us and appropriate it for the good of others. When you have a burning desire for something you will do anything to get it.

In Mark chapter 2:1-12, Jesus is confronted with a paralytic. When his four friends couldn’t get to Jesus through the crowd in and outside the house where He was teaching, they climbed on top of the building. What they did next was unthinkable! It wasn’t even their house but they tore open the roof and lowered the paralytic down right in front of Jesus. I’m not sure if it was the burning desire of the sick person or the desperation of his friends, who didn’t want to have to carry him around any longer, that healed this man. However, one thing is for sure, they displayed their faith in God and they had a burning desire to see this paralytic healed. When Jesus saw their faith, He healed the paralytic and forgave his sins. That is a shining example of a burning desire. These friends wouldn’t take no for an answer. A burning desire will compel you to take action. What is your burning desire? Do you have a promise from the Bible to go after it? Today is the day, now is the time.

The scripture says, “For He satisfies the longing soul. And the hungry soul He filleth with good” (Psalm 107:9 ASV). What that means is you have an open invitation from your heavenly father. If you desire the salvation of your loved one, you have it. If you need healing -- it’s yours. If you are struggling for resources -- He is your Provider. If you’re having sleepless nights, God has promised sound sleep. If you’re fighting a legal battle, the victory is yours. Job, promotion, increase, and influence can all be yours if you want it badly enough. How big is your want to? Are you ready to breakout and prosper? Don’t just do it for yourself, do it for your family. Do it for your community and your country. Together, let’s change our world for Jesus!

Whatever you desire, make sure you’re helping others. When your desire lines up with God’s, you can achieve anything. I proclaim and declare that you’ll fulfill every obligation. You will live in divine health. You’ll have meaningful relationships. Your business will thrive again and your family will not be ashamed. Good days are ahead of us. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. I love you and I’m praying for you!

You Have What It Takes

Our attitude is one of the greatest assets we have. We can use it to our own advantage or we can use it against ourselves. When we accept that we’re complete in Him we don’t have to strive for success.

I heard of an older man who made his living selling balloons at a fair. He had balloons of many different colors, including red, yellow, blue, and green. Whenever business was slow, he would release a helium-filled balloon into the air. When the children saw the balloon go up, they all wanted one. They would come up to him, buy a balloon and his sales would go up. All day, he continued to release a balloon whenever the sales slowed down. One day, the balloon man felt some tugging at his jacket. He turned around and a little boy asked, “If you release a black balloon, would that also fly?” Moved by the boy’s concern, the man replied gently, “Son, it is not the color of the balloon; it is what’s inside that makes it go up.”

The same principle applies to our lives. It’s not so much what’s around us that matters but what’s on the inside that counts. Here’s what I’ve learnt in life. We don’t need a lot of talent, education, connections or a ton of money to succeed in life. We need the anointing of God. When God breathes in your direction, it will take you further than someone who has exceptional talents. In case you’re wondering, God has anointed you with favor like a shield (Psalm 5:12).

Once, Jesus was teaching to thousands of people. It was getting late and people were hungry. Jesus turned to His disciples and said, “I want you to give them something to eat.” They were in the middle of nowhere. There were no grocery stores or other source of food. At first glance, it may seem like Jesus was asking them to something impossible. But here’s the key. God will never ask you do something without first giving you to ability to it. The size of your problem is an indication of the size of your victory that awaits you. Your miracle right now is within your reach. You can handle it. You have what it takes.

At the command of Jesus, the disciples began to make all sorts of excuses. Finally they said, “Jesus, all we have is five loaves of bread and two fish from a little boy but what is that among so many?” Jesus said, “Bring them to me.” He blessed it and the rest is history. What situation you’re in? Bring it Jesus. He will bless it and make you overflow.

Like a helium balloon, what makes you go up is what’s inside. Are you powered by Jesus inside or are you striving on your own? William James of Harvard University said, “The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering the attitudes of their minds.” When we have the right mental and spiritual attitude, we can achieve anything in life.

You have what it takes! You lack nothing. You’re not stuck. You have options. God is breathing in your direction. Healing is yours. The legal situation is there to propel you to the next level. One touch of God’s favor is going to bring you the biggest client in your business. You’re not an orphan left alone on earth to fight life through on your own. Jesus said, “The Holy Spirit is your Helper.” Instead of looking at how bad your situation is why don’t you look at how big your God is? He turned water into wine, parted the red sea, raised the dead and fed thousands. Certainly, He can take care of you. Friend, you have what it takes. God is working. Give Him some praise. The answer is on its way. I’m praying for you!

“So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority” (Colossians 2:10 NLT).

Look Beyond Your Circumstances

When we are faced with difficulties, it is easy to be overwhelmed by the situations in our lives. Problems, trials, and temptations come to everyone. True champions are those who learn to look beyond their circumstances and who hope in God’s interventions.

Anyone can complain but you are better than that! When we face problems with a winning attitude, we will see everything from a different perspective. The bigger the problem, the bigger the victory! The Bible says that the steps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord. That means, when you’re living a God-pleasing life, everything will turnout for your good. What looks like a setback is actually a setup to propel you to the next level.

If you received a negative report from your doctor, don’t just look at it and say this is my lot. The people in medical science are doing everything that can to get you well. But there are times when the problem is beyond the doctor’s abilities. You have to make up your mind and say, “I know I will overcome this sickness; this too shall pass. I’m not moved by what I see; I’m going to live by what I know.” When you look beyond your circumstances and put your faith in His Word instead of your fate, God will honor you.

Recently I was ministering in Laos. While it is a beautiful country, it is one of the five communist countries still remaining in the world. Pastor Khamphone has suffered much persecution in the hands of the communists but God has always been faithful to Him. Once, he needed $40,000 to complete the roof of his church. He had no way of coming up with such astronomical amount. So he prayed. One day Pastor Khamphone received a phone call from a stranger. He went to pray for this businessman who was in dire straits. After prayer pastor Khamphone came home not expecting anything. The next day the Laotian businessmen sent a bag full of money. When they counted, it was exactly the $40,000 they needed to complete their church roof! In your times of difficulty, remember that God has ways that we do not know about. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Today Pastor Khamphone leads 700 churches! King David said, “Those who hope in the Lord will not be ashamed” (Psalm 25:3).

You may be going through a fierce financial battle. Don’t throw up your hands and say, “This is not working. There’s no way I can pay my bills on time. I will spend rest of my life paying off my mortgage.” These may be your financial affairs but don’t underestimate God’s intervention. Once, Jesus was faced with tax collectors. Jesus didn’t have a bank account or a secret stash of cash hidden somewhere. He ordered Peter to go fishing. Odd as it was, Peter obeyed and the very first fish he caught had a gold coin in its mouth to pay for their taxes. What’s my point? When you’re in a financial crisis, go fishing. Seriously, Jesus created the world’s wealth yet He taught us to trust in God’s provision in times of our needs.

Friend, don’t be a rollercoaster Christian – up when you have some good news and down when you don’t see anything happening. I’m not making light of your grave situation but I am asking you to cast all your cares upon the Lord for He cares for you. He loves you too much to let you suffer. You may have even brought this situation upon yourself but don’t you dare make excuses for your bad brakes breaks. Our God is slow to anger and full of compassion. He’s a merciful God. Plead mercy! Trust in Him and learn an expensive lesson. Jesus said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician but those who are sick” (Mark 2:17 NIV).

Let me speak a blessing over your life. You will overcome every obstacle standing in your way. You will live and not die and proclaim the works of the Lord. You will come out of your financial challenges better off than ever before. You will lend and not borrow. You will meet the person of your dreams. You will go on that mission trip. Your business will thrive again. Your children will serve God. You will live the happy, healthy, and abundant life Jesus died for. Instead of considering your circumstance, consider your God. I am ministering in India but I’m praying for you today!
