Since we’re young we’re
told to do great things. We dress up as prince and princess but as times goes
by, life happens. We lose our hopes and dreams. We give up but God never gives
up on us. Today I want to remind you that you’re called to be a king.
For many of us
today, life is a struggle. Some of my friends are working two or three jobs to
provide for their families. It’s a daily battle to make ends meet. Others of
you have waited a long time for a job to come by. Some of you have a lingering
sickness, a relationship or a family problem. I have good news for you. You’re
called to be a king in life. A king doesn’t get bogged down with life’s
travails but he is in the place of authority to influence many – that’s YOU!
This is what
happened to Saul in the Bible (I Samuel 9-10). He was an ordinary man doing
ordinary things but God had a special plan for Saul. He was anointed to be the
King of Israel and deliver God’s people from the Philistines. One day Saul was
in search of his father’s donkeys. They were preoccupied with their heads down
chasing donkeys when God ordained a day for him to meet Prophet Samuel. Samuel poured
a jar of oil on Saul and declared him to be the next king of Israel. What a
shift that brought into Saul’s life. One day he was chasing lost donkey and the
next day he became the king of Israel!
Today is your day!
I’m here to tell you that you’re called to be a king. Stop chasing “donkeys” in
your life. Today, you may be chasing a career, a relationship, health or wealth
but I must remind you, God wants you to be the king! He wants you to rule and
reign in life through Jesus Christ. No sickness, obstacles, difficulties and challenges
are going to stop you. When you step up to be the king, all the “donkeys” in
the kingdom will automatically be yours.
In the Bible,
Peter was an ordinary fisherman. One day Jesus saw him and he was chosen to be
one of the disciples. Through much struggles, mistakes and learning, Peter went
on to become one of the greatest disciples of Jesus. He won thousands to the
Lord at once on the Day of Pentecost. Today Jesus sees you. It doesn’t matter
where you’ve been what matters is what you can become!
You may be living
an ordinary life, struggling to pay bills and raise your family. Maybe you have
a small church and it’s going nowhere. Maybe you’re consumed with a struggling
relationship or a prolonged sickness. Don’t be discouraged. You’re called to be
a king. Stop chasing donkeys and follow the call of God in your life.
I
just returned from a missions trip to Asia. Every time I go there, I’m amazed
at the ordinary people making an extra-ordinary difference because they’ve
responded to the call of God in their lives. Pastor Krishna spent twenty six
months in a Nepalese prison but he has planted two hundred churches since his
release. Singh was forced to be separated from his wife for ten years when he became
a Christian. Today Singh, his wife and children have a thriving church in a
bustling city. They’re leading thousands to the Lord. Bijay lives in an obscure
village but the Holy Spirit working with them turned a red light district into
a God-hungry village. People sit outside to learn about Jesus because there’s
no room in their church!
Friend,
you can live and reign in life as king. Like Saul, you’re anointed to be a
king. Stop chasing donkeys and step into your divine destiny. You’re a victor
and not a victim. Like Peter, you may not have had many opportunities in life
but when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will make history. Like Pastor
Krishna, Singh and Bijay, you too can make a difference in your community and
around the globe. When you take your place as a king, not only you’ll find your
donkeys but you’ll rule over them all. Arise today. You’re called to be a king!
“For if,
because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more
will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of
righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:17
ESV).
